Defining functional groups of tree species according to rural stakeholder perceptions in Central-Mali [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
In the Tiby area (Segou region, Mali), the intensive exploitation of timber resources and the lack of tree regeneration lead to a degradation of agroforestry parklands for years.

Testing for polytomies in phylogenetic species trees using quartet frequencies

open access: yes, 2018
Phylogenetic species trees typically represent the speciation history as a bifurcating tree. Speciation events that simultaneously create more than two descendants, thereby creating polytomies in the phylogeny, are possible.

Muroid rodent phylogenetics: 900-species tree reveals increasing diversification rates

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
We combined new sequence data for more than 300 muroid rodent species with our previously published sequences for up to five nuclear and one mitochondrial genes to generate the most widely and densely sampled hypothesis of evolutionary relationships ...

Spleen‐Targeting Biomimetic Hybrid Nanocarriers for Systemic Immune Reprogramming in Colitis: RBC Membrane Vesicle‐Fused Lipid Nanoparticles

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A spleen‐targeting hybrid nanoplatform (RBCMV‐LNP‐RP) harnessing erythrophagocytosis mimics senescent red blood cell clearance to achieve spleen‐specific delivery of rapamycin. This biomimetic system enables selective accumulation in splenic macrophages, orchestrating systemic immune reprogramming and promoting mucosal healing in an inflammatory bowel ...

Converting Chinese fir plantations into mixed stands: Effects of density on soil organic carbon mineralization and its temperature sensitivity

open access: yesTrees, Forests and People
Converting monoculture plantations into mixed stands is a key strategy for enhancing soil carbon sequestration. The mechanisms behind soil organic carbon (SOC) turnover and its temperature response at different mixed densities are unclear.

Spruce Budworm Egg Mass Density on Balsam Fir and White Spruce: Low Population Levels (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
As part of a study to develop improved foliage sampling methods for spruce budworm, Choristoneura fumiferana (Clemens), egg masses, two balsam fir (four in one stand), Abies balsamea, and two white spruce, Picea glauca, trees were chosen from each of ...

Relationships between gene trees and species trees.

open access: yesMolecular Biology and Evolution, 1988
It is well known that a phylogenetic tree (gene tree) constructed from DNA sequences for a genetic locus does not necessarily agree with the tree that represents the actual evolutionary pathway of the species involved (species tree). One of the important factors that cause this difference is genetic polymorphism in the ancestral species.

Spectrally Tunable 2D Material‐Based Infrared Photodetectors for Intelligent Optoelectronics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Intelligent optoelectronics through spectral engineering of 2D material‐based infrared photodetectors. Abstract The evolution of intelligent optoelectronic systems is driven by artificial intelligence (AI). However, their practical realization hinges on the ability to dynamically capture and process optical signals across a broad infrared (IR) spectrum.

Photoconductivity‐Driven Quantum Efficiency Gain in Inorganic Ruddlesden‐Popper Layered Cs2PbBr2I2 Perovskite Photodetector for Visible Light Detection

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Rational halogen mixing strategy was employed to shift the bandgap of Cs2PbBr2I2 from ultraviolet to visible region, enabling first realization of a visible‐light photodetector with this 2D layered Ruddlesden‐Popper perovskite material. Under illumination, light‐induced internal field forms and drives trap‐mediated persistent photoconductivity ...

Predicting Atomic Charges in MOFs by Topological Charge Equilibration

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An atomic charge prediction method is presented that is able to accurately reproduce ab‐initio‐derived reference charges for a large number of metal–organic frameworks. Based on a topological charge equilibration scheme, static charges that fulfill overall neutrality are quickly generated.
