Cardiac dysfunction during adverse maternal outcomes in hypertensive disorders of pregnancy

open access: yesActa Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica, EarlyView.
In pregnancies complicated by hypertensive disorders, peripartum adverse maternal outcomes are associated with diastolic cardiac dysfunction. Elevated E/e' ratio and left atrial volume index highlight the need for targeted cardiovascular monitoring and long‐term follow‐up.

Reference Ranges of Left Ventricular Strain Measures by Two-Dimensional Speckle-Tracking Echocardiography in Children: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
BACKGROUND: Establishment of the range of reference values and associated variations of two-dimensional speckle-tracking echocardiography (2DSTE)-derived left ventricular (LV) strain is a prerequisite for its routine clinical adoption in pediatrics ...

Percutaneous Versus Surgical Cannulation for Femoro‐Femoral Venoarterial Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation: A Retrospective Cohort Study on Cannulation‐Related Complications

open access: yesArtificial Organs, EarlyView.
Percutaneous femoro‐femoral V‐A ECMO cannulation was associated with more than a two‐fold lower risk of site bleeding and nearly a six‐fold lower risk of infection compared with surgical cut‐down, with no difference in limb ischemia. Absence of distal perfusion catheterization and larger arterial cannula size were additional modifiable ischemia risk ...

Sex differences in cerebral blood flow and cardiac function in response to exercise in the heat

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract We investigated the effect of exercising in hot conditions on cerebral blood flow and systolic left ventricular (LV) function in males and females, to explore sex differences. The experimental condition consisted of walking on a treadmill at 5 km/h and 2% incline, inside a heat chamber at 40°C (50% relative humidity), for 90 min.

Role of speckle tracking echocardiography in detecting early left atrial dysfunction in hypertensive patients

open access: yesThe Egyptian Heart Journal, 2018
Background: Arterial hypertension adversely affects left atrial (LA) size and function, effect on function may precede effect on size. Many techniques were used to assess LA function but with pitfalls.

How do I do it? Speckle-tracking echocardiography

open access: yesIndian Heart Journal, 2013
Speckle-tracking echocardiography (STE) is a recently developed technique for the characterization and quantification of myocardial deformation. By allowing measurement of the different components of myocardial deformation, it provides information which is not available with any of the currently used echocardiographic parameters, including left ...

Cardiopulmonary function in special operations forces compared to conventional infantry soldiers

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Fitness is essential to military personnel in general, especially in the special operations forces (SOF), where the demanding tasks require a high level of physical fitness and mental robustness. However, little research has been done on SOF to characterise the putative underlying cardiopulmonary adaptations that distinguish them from ...

SUBCLINICAL SYSTOLIC DYSFUNCTION OF THE LEFT VENTRICLE IN PREECLAMPTIC WOMEN WITHOUT PROTEINURIA. THE POSSIBILITIES OF ECHOCARDIOGRAPHY IN EARLY DIAGNOSIS

open access: yesМедицинский совет, 2017
The article presents the main pathophysiological mechanisms associated with the development of complications of pregnancy against the background of arterial hypertension in patients without clinical manifestations of left ventricular dysfunction, the ...

Markers of Maternal and Infant Metabolism are Associated with Ventricular Dysfunction in Infants of Obese Women with Type 2 Diabetes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
BACKGROUND To test the hypothesis that infants born to obese women with pregestational type 2 diabetes mellitus (IBDM) have ventricular dysfunction at one month that is associated with markers of maternal lipid and glucose metabolism.
