Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

The implementation of the mortar spectral element discretization of the heat equation with discontinuous diffusion coefficient

open access: yesBoundary Value Problems, 2019
We propose to implement the mortar spectral elements discretization of the heat equation in a bounded two-dimensional domain with a piecewise continuous diffusion coefficient. The discretization on time is based on the Euler implicit method.

A Sparse and High-Order Accurate Line-Based Discontinuous Galerkin Method for Unstructured Meshes

open access: yes, 2012
We present a new line-based discontinuous Galerkin (DG) discretization scheme for first- and second-order systems of partial differential equations.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Numerical simulation of confined flows past obstacles – the comparative study of Lattice Boltzmann and Spectral Element Methods

open access: yesArchives of Mechanics, 2012
This paper concerns the Lattice Boltzmann Method (LBM) which has recently become alternative, computationally efficient tool to simulate a Newtonian fluid flow, especially in complex geometries.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Quadrilateral mesh optimisation method based on swarm intelligence optimisation

open access: yesScientific Reports
As oil and gas exploration advances, the growing complexity of geological conditions demands higher-quality quadrilateral meshes for spectral element method-based seismic simulations.

High-Order Methods Applied to Nonlinear Magnetostatic Problems

open access: yesMathematical and Computational Applications, 2019
This paper presents a comparison between two high-order modeling methods for solving magnetostatic problems under magnetic saturation, focused on the extraction of machine parameters.

Unfitted Spectral Element Method for Interfacial Models

open access: yesCommunications in Computational Physics
In this paper, we propose an unfitted spectral element method for solving elliptic interface and corresponding eigenvalue problems. The novelty of the proposed method lies in its combination of the spectral accuracy of the spectral element method and the flexibility of the unfitted Nitsche’s method.

Optimal Error Estimates of Galerkin Finite Element Methods for Stochastic Partial Differential Equations with Multiplicative Noise

open access: yes, 2011
We consider Galerkin finite element methods for semilinear stochastic partial differential equations (SPDEs) with multiplicative noise and Lipschitz continuous nonlinearities.
