Solar Irradiance Variability: Modeling the Measurements
New models of the Sun's irradiance variability are developed from 15 years of direct observations made by the Solar Radiation and Climate Experiment (SORCE) spacecraft from 2003 to 2017 (inclusive).

Creation of the GSFCSSI2 Composite Solar Spectral Irradiance Data Set
Solar spectral irradiance (SSI) is a key driver for the Earth's energy budget. Characterizing the spectral and temporal variations in SSI from measurements over multiple decades relies on the creation of a composite SSI product that merges data from ...

Metasurfaces and other structured photonic environments can dramatically modify the absorption and/or light emission of semiconductors. However, the consequences of these changes on the temperature of the system are not well understood. The authors address this problem for colloidal nanocrystals and leverage their findings to convert light into ...

Recent variability of the solar spectral irradiance and its impact on climate modelling [PDF]
The lack of long and reliable time series of solar spectral irradiance (SSI) measurements makes an accurate quantification of solar contributions to recent climate change difficult.

Submicron Metasurface Reconfigured Multiband Smart Windows
This work presents a submicron metasurface reconfigured multiband thermochromic smart window. By integrating subwavelength nanostructures into a Fabry−Perot resonator configuration, it mitigates conventional trade‐offs to simultaneously deliver high luminous transmittance and robust solar heating and radiative cooling modulation capabilities ...

Optimal design and experimental test of a solar simulator for solar photovoltaic modules
Solar simulators have been widely used to characterize the performance of solar photovoltaics cells, which typically have a size of 156 × 156 mm2. In order to amplify the testing area, a flexible optimal design method for solar simulators is presented in

Integrated Visible Light and Oxidant Protection Through Multifunctional Sunscreens
High‐energy visible radiation (HEVR), although less energetic than UV light, penetrates deeper into the skin and contributes to photoaging, pigmentation disorders, and oxidative stress. The development of new HEVR‐targeted filters, therefore, represents not only a scientific challenge but also a pressing public health and cosmetic industry need.
