Temperature‐ and Light‐Regulated Liquid Crystal Smart Window for Dynamic Control of Daylight and Solar Heat in All‐Weather Conditions

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
An environmentally adaptive smart window based on the interplay of light‐driven molecular motors and liquid crystal (LC) polymers is developed. The window can dynamically switch among three distinct working states: transparent, reflective, and scattering, depending on ambient temperature and solar light intensity, enabling excellent modulation of ...

Correlations between Total and Spectral Solar Irradiance Variations

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We compare short-term (seven solar rotations), wavelength-dependent temporal variations in spectral solar irradiance (SSI) with those from the total solar irradiance (TSI). Using space-based measurements, we empirically find good correlations across most

Multivariate analysis of solar spectral irradiance measurements [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, 2001
Principal component analysis is used to characterize approximately 7000 downwelling solar irradiance spectra retrieved at the Southern Great Plains site during an Atmospheric Radiation Measurement (ARM) shortwave intensive operating period. This analysis technique has proven to be very effective in reducing a large set of variables into a much smaller ...

Making of a solar spectral irradiance dataset I: observations, uncertainties, and methods

open access: yes, 2016
International audienceContext. Changes in the spectral solar irradiance (SSI) are a key driver of the variability of the Earth's environment, strongly affecting the upper atmosphere, but also impacting climate.

Closed‐Loop Radiative Cooling Mulch Upcycled From Agricultural Residues for Efficient Soil Heat–Water Stress Mitigation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Conventional passive radiative cooling films rely on costly feedstocks and energy‐intensive fabrication, with poor end‐of‐life compatibility in agriculture. To address this challenge, a sustainable radiative cooling mulch (SRCM) is developed from waste maize leaves via spontaneous hydrogen‐bond self‐assembly.

Increased efficiencies on CdTe solar cells via luminescence down-shifting with excitation energy transfer between dyes

open access: yes, 2012
The external quantum efficiencies of CdTe solar cells fabricated by the atmospheric pressure metal organic chemical vapour deposition (AP–MOCVD) method have been measured with one and two dye doped luminescence down-shifting (LDS) layers on top ...

TSIS-1 SIM L3 V06 Solar Spectral Irradiance

open access: yes, 2021
NASA's Total and Spectral Solar Irradiance Sensor -1 (TSIS-1) operates on the International Space Station. TSIS-1 provides absolute measurements of the total solar irradiance (TSI) and spectral solar irradiance (SSI), important for ...

Solar UV Spectral Irradiance Variations

open access: yesJournal of geomagnetism and geoelectricity, 1991
Recent measurements of the relative temporal variations of solar UV radiation are reviewed. The long-term increase in solar UV irradiance during the rise of solar cycle 22 through April 1990 is comparable to the decrease from the solar cycle 21 peak in late 1981 to the 1986 minimum.
