Two Key Ferredoxins for Nitrogen Fixation Have Different Specificities and Biophysical Properties

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
Two ferredoxins, FdC and FdN, are collectively essential for the process of nitrogen fixation by the iron nitrogenase in R. capsulatus. We explore the biophysical factors, through spectroscopic and structural characterizations, which determine ferredoxin functionality and pathway specificity. The structure of FdC (PDB: 9I2A) and model of FdN (AF‐D5ARY6)

(21238) 1995 WV7: A New Basaltic Asteroid Outside the 3:1 Mean Motion Resonance [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2006
We report visible to near-infrared spectroscopy and spectrophotometry of asteroid (21238) 1995 WV7 that reveal the presence of deep absorption bands indicating a V taxonomic type with an apparently basaltic surface composition. Since this asteroid is on the other side of the 3:1 mean motion resonance from Vesta, and because the required ejection ...

Mid-infrared imaging and spectroscopy of the enigmatic cocoon stars in the Quintuplet Cluster [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
In an attempt to determine the nature of the enigmatic cocoon stars in the Quintuplet Cluster, we have obtained mid-infrared imaging and spectrophotometry of the cluster, using the CAM and SWS instruments on ISO, using SpectroCam-10 on the Palomar 5m telescope, and NICMOS on HST.

Tests of the Accelerating Universe with Near-Infrared Observations of a High-Redshift Type Ia Supernova [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
We have measured the rest-frame B,V, and I-band light curves of a high-redshift type Ia supernova (SN Ia), SN 1999Q (z=0.46), using HST and ground-based near-infrared detectors.

Dextran‐Assisted Biomimetic Fabrication of CdSe:Eu QDs With Enhanced Biocompatibility and Stability

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
Dextran‐templated CdSe:Eu quantum dots were synthesized and coated with citrate or APTES to enhance stability and reduce cytotoxicity. Structural, optical, and biological evaluations demonstrated their potential for cellular imaging and theragnostic applications. Abstract A dextran templated biomimetic synthetic approach was applied for the preparation

Simultaneous determination of triglycerides and cholesterol esters in serum by infrared spectrophotometry

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1964
With the use of a high-resolution grating infrared spectrophotometer, it is possible to analyze mixtures of cholesterol esters and triglycerides on the basis of the difference in their ester carbonyl absorption frequencies.

The H-band Emitting Region of the Luminous Blue Variable P Cygni: Spectrophotometry and Interferometry of the Wind [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We present the first high angular resolution observations in the nearinfrared H-band (1.6 microns) of the Luminous Blue Variable star P Cygni. We obtained six-telescope interferometric observations with the CHARA Array and the MIRC beam combiner. These show that the spatial flux distribution is larger than expected for the stellar photosphere.

Localized irregularities in hemoglobin flow and oxygenation in calf muscle in patients with peripheral vascular disease detected with near-infrared spectrophotometry.

open access: yesJournal of Vascular Surgery, 2003
PURPOSE Near-infrared spectrophotometry is used to measure flow, concentration, and oxygenation of hemoglobin in arterioles, capillaries, and venules several centimeters deep in tissue.
