Downy mildew resistance and genetic variability in a wild rocket germplasm collection
Abstract One hundred accessions of a “core collection” of Diplotaxis tenuifolia (L.) DC. and Eruca spp. were screened at seedling stage for resistance to downy mildew. Accessions tested at the seedling stage were assigned to 0–6 interaction phenotypes.

Precision spectrophotometry for PNLF distances: the case of NGC 300 [PDF]
The Multi-Unit Spectroscopic Explorer (MUSE) has enabled a renaissance of the planetary nebula luminosity function (PNLF) as a standard candle. In the case of NGC 300, we learned that the precise spectrophotometry of MUSE was crucial to obtain an accurate PNLF distance.

Spectrophotometry of shell galaxies [PDF]
Low dispersion spectra of two shell galaxies, NGC 3923 and NGC 3051, have been obtained covering the 5300Å to 10000Å spectral range. These long-slit spectra go through the nucleus of each galaxy and also through 12 shells in NGC 3923 and through 3 shells in NGC 3051.

Shedding light on spectrophotometry: The SpecUP educational spectrophotometer
Students often regard laboratory instruments as ‘black boxes’ which generate results, without understanding their principles of operation. This lack of understanding is a concern because the correct interpretation of analytical results and the ...

Spectrophotometry of thin films of light absorbing particles [PDF]
Thin films of dispersions of light absorbing solid particles or emulsions containing a light absorbing solute all have a non-uniform distribution of light absorbing species throughout the sample volume.

Nitrogen Concentration Estimation in Tomato Leaves by VIS-NIR Non-Destructive Spectroscopy
Nitrogen concentration in plants is normally determined by expensive and time consuming chemical analyses. As an alternative, chlorophyll meter readings and N-NO3 concentration determination in petiole sap were proposed, but these assays are not always ...

A recalibration of optical photometry: Tycho-2, Strömgren, and Johnson systems [PDF]
I use HST spectrophotometry to analyze the calibration of 3 optical photometry systems: Tycho-2 B_T V_T, Str\"omgren u v b y, and Johnson U B V. For Tycho-2, I revisit the analysis of Ma\'iz Apell\'aniz (2005) to include the new recalibration of grating/aperture corrections, vignetting, and charge transfer inefficiency effects produced by the STIS ...

Carded Tow Real-Time Color Assessment: A Spectral Camera-Based System
One of the most important parameters to be controlled during the production of textile yarns obtained by mixing pre-colored fibers, is the color correspondence between the manufactured yarn and a given reference, usually provided by a designer or a ...

The mitochondrial outer membrane iron–sulphur ([Fe‐S]) protein mitoNEET is a target of the type‐2 diabetes drug pioglitazone. Its unknown molecular function is linked to respiratory complex activity and mitochondrial function. We discovered that O2 protects the mitoNEET [2Fe‐2S] cluster against NO oxidation and desensitization towards reduction by H2S.
