Fundamental stellar and accretion disc parameters of the eclipsing binary DQ Velorum

open access: yes, 2013
To add to the growing collection of well-studied double periodic variables (DPVs) we have carried out the first spectroscopic and photometric analysis of the eclipsing binary DQ Velorum to obtain its main physical stellar and orbital parameters ...

Residual Stress States in Microstructurally Graded PBF–LB/M Austenitic Steel Components

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study examines microstructurally graded 316L rectangular tube profiles fabricated via PBF–LB/M using a dual‐laser system. A 1 kW top‐hat and a 400 W Gaussian laser create distinct grain sizes and crystallographic texture. Mechanical properties are linked to microstructural evolution driven by processing conditions.

CALPHAD‐Guided Prediction and Interpretation of Phase Formation in Ta–Mo–Cr–Ti–Al Refractory High‐Entropy Alloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study designs Ta–Mo–Cr–Ti–Al refractory high‐entropy alloys with a disordered body‐centered‐cubic A2 crystal structure aiming for improved ductility, lower density, and oxidation resistance. Four alloy compositions are identified by thermodynamic calculations.

Spectroscopic studies of azabicyclospirohydantoins

open access: yesJournal of Molecular Structure, 1980
The IR spectra of 3-alkyl-3-azabicyclo(3.2.1)octane-8-spiro-, 3-alkyl-3-azabicyclo(3.3.1) nonane-9-spiro-, and 8-alkyl-8-azabicyclo(4.3.1)decane-10-spiro-5'-hydantoins have been studied in the solid state and in solution and the existence of different types of hydrogen bonding deduced from the spectra.

New Developments in the Field of Production and Application of Multi‐Material Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing Components: A Review

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The utilization of direct energy deposition (DED)‐arc additive manufacturing processes in industrial applications is increasing, and these processes have the potential for multi‐material applications. This work provides a overview of the state of research in DED‐arc made functional graded structures, to establish a link to potential industrial ...

Accretion onto the Companion of Eta Carinae During the Spectroscopic Event. V. the Infrared Decline

open access: yes, 2008
We propose that the decline in the near-IR flux from the massive binary system Eta Carinae during the spectroscopic event might be explained by accreted mass that absorbs the radiation from the secondary star, and by that reduces the heating of the dust ...

Mitigation of Cracks in High‐Performance Nickel‐Based Superalloys in Powder Bed Fusion Laser Beam of Metals Using a Metal Matrix Composite Approach

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
High‐performance nickel‐based superalloys are often not processible in additive manufacturing (AM) due to hot cracking. The findings in this manuscript propose an efficient method to mitigate cracking and enhance mechanical properties of these alloys by producing a metal matrix composite, contributing to the material and process perspective of the AM ...
