Optical Spectroscopy of Distant Red Galaxies

open access: yes, 2009
We present optical spectroscopic follow-up of a sample of Distant Red Galaxies (DRGs) with K 2.3, in the Hubble Deep Field South, the MS 1054-03 field, and the Chandra Deep Field South. Spectroscopic redshifts were obtained for 15 DRGs. Only 2 out of 15

The intracellular domain of TLR2 is capable of high‐affinity Zn binding: possible outcomes for the receptor activation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Toll‐like receptors (TLRs) are important in the innate immune system. This study explores the zinc‐binding ability of the TLR2 TIR domain (TLR2TIR). We found that TLR2TIR binds zinc with nanomolar affinity through its cysteine residues. Two of them, C673 and C713, are vital for receptor activation, indicating that zinc may play a role in initiating ...

Green synthesis of nickel oxide nanoparticles using Acacia nilotica leaf extracts and investigation of their electrochemical and biological properties

open access: yesJournal of Taibah University for Science, 2023
Green synthesis of nanoparticles (NPs) has attracted the researcher's attention due to its rapid, cost-effective, sustainable and eco-friendly nature. Current studies were carried out to perform and investigate the green synthesis of NiO NPs with aqueous

Five More Massive Binaries in the Cygnus OB2 Association

open access: yes, 2009
We present the orbital solutions for four OB spectroscopic binaries, MT145, GSC 03161-00815, 2MASS J20294666+4105083, and Schulte 73, and the partial orbital solution to the B spectroscopic binary, MT372, as part of an ongoing study to determine the ...

Refining the NaV1.7 pharmacophore of a class of venom‐derived peptide inhibitors via a combination of in silico screening and rational engineering

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Venom peptides have shown promise in treating pain. Our study uses computer screening to identify a peptide that targets a sodium channel (NaV1.7) linked to chronic pain. We produced the peptide in the laboratory and refined its design, advancing the search for innovative pain therapies.

Investigation of the Praesepe cluster. III. Radial velocity and binarity of the F5-K0 Klein-Wassink stars [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
Coravel observations of 103 F5-K0 stars in the Praesepe cluster yielded 24 spectroscopic binaries (3 are non-members), and 20 orbits were determined, with periods from 4 to 7400 days.

Spectroscopy of clusters in the ESO Distant Cluster Survey (EDisCS) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
We present spectroscopic observations of galaxies in 4 clusters at z = 0.7-0.8 and in one cluster at z~0.5 obtained with the FORS2 spectrograph on the VLT as part of the ESO Distant Cluster Survey (EDisCS), a photometric and spectroscopic survey of 20 ...

Plasma lipidomic and metabolomic profiles in high‐grade glioma patients before and after 72‐h presurgery water‐only fasting

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Presurgery 72‐h fasting in GB patients leads to adaptations of plasma lipids and polar metabolites. Fasting reduces lysophosphatidylcholines and increases free fatty acids, shifts triglycerides toward long‐chain TGs and increases branched‐chain amino acids, alpha aminobutyric acid, and uric acid.
