Evaluation of in vitro toxicity of common phytochemicals included in weight loss supplements using 1H NMR spectroscopy

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We investigated the toxicity of 12 active compounds commonly found in herbal weight loss supplements (WLS) using human liver and colon cell models. Epigallocatechin‐3‐gallate was the only compound showing significant toxicity. Metabolic profiling revealed protein degradation, disrupted energy and lipid metabolism suggesting that the inclusion of EGCG ...

The Sloan Digital Sky Survey-II Supernova Survey: Search Algorithm and Follow-up Observations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The Sloan Digital Sky Survey-II Supernova Survey has identified a large number of new transient sources in a 300 sq. deg. region along the celestial equator during its first two seasons of a three-season campaign.

Spectroscopic investigations of descloizite [PDF]

open access: yesSpectrochimica Acta Part A: Molecular and Biomolecular Spectroscopy, 2009
Descloizite mineral originated from Grootfontein, South West Africa, is used in the present work. The chemical analysis of this mineral reveals the presence of V(2)O(5)=20.94 wt%, CuO=0.45 wt%, FeO in traces. An EPR study of sample confirms the presence of VO(II) and Fe(III).

Pioglitazone plus (−)‐epigallocatechin gallate: a novel approach to enhance osteogenic performance in aged bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Aged human bmMSCs are seeded in the scaffold. Osteoblastic induction can slightly increase cell's bone‐forming activity to produce bone‐like tissues, shown as the sporadic xylenol orange‐stained spots (the lower left image). Notably, pioglitazone plus EGCG co‐treatment dramatically increases cell's bone‐forming activity and bone‐like tissue production (

Enzymatic degradation of biopolymers in amorphous and molten states: mechanisms and applications

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This review explains how polymer morphology and thermal state shape enzymatic degradation pathways, comparing amorphous and molten biopolymer structures. By integrating structure–reactivity principles with insights from thermodynamics and enzyme engineering, it highlights mechanisms that enable efficient polymer breakdown.

Spectroscopic and Fluorometric Determination of Cinnarizine and Dipyridamole in Pharmaceutical Tablets Using Eosin Y Dye [PDF]

open access: yesمجلة التربية والعلم, 2013
Spectrophotometric and spectrofluorimetric methods were developed for the determination of cinnarizine and dipyridamole. The spectrophotometric method is based on the formation of ion pair complex  between the studied drugs and eosin Y which shows ...

Relativity versus exchange currents in 16O(e,e'p)

open access: yes, 2016
The 16O(e,e'p) reaction in the quasi-elastic region has been studied in several experiments to determine spectroscopic factors, hence, the degree to which $^{16}$O looks like a closed shell. By varying the kinematics, experimentalists are able to extract

The SLUGGS Survey: Calcium Triplet-based Spectroscopic Metallicities for Over 900 Globular Clusters [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Although the colour distribution of globular clusters in massive galaxies is well known to be bimodal, the spectroscopic metallicity distribution has been measured in only a few galaxies.

CSF Levels of NPTX2 Are Associated With Less Brain Atrophy Over Time in Cognitively Unimpaired Individuals

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Neuronal pentraxin 2 (NPTX2) is a synaptic protein involved in synaptic plasticity and regulation of neuronal excitability. Lower baseline cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) NPTX2 levels have been shown to be associated with an earlier onset of mild cognitive impairment (MCI), a pre‐dementia syndrome, even after CSF Alzheimer's Disease (AD)

GCIRS16SW: a massive eclipsing binary in the Galactic Center [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
We report on the spectroscopic monitoring of GCIRS16SW, an Ofpe/WN9 star and LBV candidate in the central parsec of the Galaxy. SINFONI observations show strong daily spectroscopic changes in the K band.
