New spectroscopic binaries among nearby stars [PDF]

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics, 2003
In the course of surveying a large number of nearby ( ≈ 50 pc or less) stars for indicators of youth, we have discovered a number of hitherto unknown spectroscopic binaries. Here we present a list of these new binaries with pertinent data. Two of these (HD 143705 and HD 89959) have been observed six times each, and their respective radial velocity ...

Velocity Curve Analysis of the Spectroscopic Binary Stars V373 Cas, V2388 Oph, V401 Cyg, GM Dra, V523 Cas, AB And, and HD 141929 by Artificial Neural Networks [PDF]

open access: yesPASA, Volume 26, Issue 2, pp. 121-127 (2009), 2009
We used an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) to derive the orbital parameters of spectroscopic binary stars. Using measured radial velocity data of seven double-lined spectroscopic binary systems V373 Cas, V2388 Oph, V401 Cyg, GM Dra, V523 Cas, AB And, and HD 141929, we found corresponding orbital and spectroscopic elements.

Discovery of four new EL CVn-type binaries in the Gaia eclipsing binaries [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
In this paper, we performed a search for EL CVn-type binaries based on the Gaia and TESS data. Through the combination of the Gaia DR3 eclipsing binary catalogue and the Gaia DR3 spectroscopic binary catalogue, we have identified 13 stars exhibiting EL CVn-like characteristics.

Multiplicity among solar-type stars IV. The CORAVEL radial velocities and the spectroscopic orbits of nearby K dwarfs [PDF]

open access: yesA&A 619, A81 (2018), 2018
Context. The statistical properties of binary stars are clues for understanding their formation process. A radial velocity survey was carried on amongst nearby G-type stars and the results were published in 1991. Aims. The survey of radial velocity measurements was extended towards K-type stars. Methods.

Orbital Solutions for Two Young, Low-Mass Spectroscopic Binaries in Ophiuchus [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We report the orbital parameters for ROXR1 14 and RX J1622.7-2325Nw, two young, low-mass, and double-lined spectroscopic binaries recently discovered in the Ophiuchus star forming region. Accurate orbital solutions were determined from over a dozen high-resolution spectra taken with the Keck II and Gemini South telescopes.

Low Mass Ratio Contact Binary V410 Aur and V776 Cas - II [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Astronomy and Space Sciences, 2005
New BVR CCD light curves of the low mass ratio contact binaries, V410 Aur and V776 Cas, were observed with the 61 cm reflector and a 2K CCD camera at the Sobaeksan Astronomical Observatory.

Asteroseismology of binary stars and a compilation of core overshoot and rotational frequency values of OB stars [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
After a brief introduction into the asteroseismic modelling of stars, we provide a compilation of the current seismic estimates of the core overshooting parameter and of the rotational frequency of single and binary massive stars. These important stellar parameters have meanwhile become available for eleven OB-type stars, among which three ...

The Value-Added Catalog of ASAS-SN Eclipsing Binaries III: Masses and Radii of Gaia Spectroscopic Binaries [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
Masses and radii of stars can be derived by combining eclipsing binary light curves with spectroscopic orbits. In our previous work, we modeled the All-Sky Automated Survey for Supernovae (ASAS-SN) light curves of more than 30,000 detached eclipsing binaries using PHOEBE.

The Poincaré Pear and Poincaré-Darwin Fission Theory in Astrophysics, 1885-1901

open access: yesPhilosophia Scientiæ, 2023
In the early 1880s, Henri Poincaré discovered an equilibrium figure for uniformly-rotating fluid masses—the pear, or piriform figure—and speculated that in certain circumstances the pear splits into two unequal parts, and provides thereby a model for the
