Hot Stars With Cool Companions [PDF]
Young intermediate-mass stars have become high-priority targets for direct-imaging planet searches following the recent discoveries of planets orbiting e.g. HR 8799 and Beta Pictoris.

The Hot R Coronae Borealis Star DY Centauri is a Binary [PDF]
The remarkable hot R Coronae Borealis (RCB) star DY Cen is revealed to be the first and only binary system to be found among the RCB stars and their likely relatives, including the extreme helium stars and the hydrogen-deficient carbon stars.

New spectroscopic binaries among nearby stars [PDF]
In the course of surveying a large number of nearby ( ≈ 50 pc or less) stars for indicators of youth, we have discovered a number of hitherto unknown spectroscopic binaries. Here we present a list of these new binaries with pertinent data. Two of these (HD 143705 and HD 89959) have been observed six times each, and their respective radial velocity ...

Formation of massive binaries [PDF]
The formation of massive stars is one of the major unsolved problems in stellar astrophysics. However, only few if any of these are found as single stars, on average massive stars have more than one companion.

A Spectroscopic Survey for Binary Stars in the Globular Cluster NGC 5053 [PDF]
We carried out a radial velocity survey for spectroscopic binaries in the low density globular cluster NGC5053. Our sample contains a total of 77 cluster member giant and subgiant stars with visual magnitudes of 14.5-18.6. Of these 77 stars, 66 stars have on average of 3-4 measurements with a total of 236 velocities.

A survey for low mass spectroscopic binary stars in the young clusters around sigma Orionis and lambda Orionis [PDF]
We have obtained multi-epoch, high-resolution spectroscopy of 218 candidate low-mass stars and brown dwarfs in the young clusters around sigma Ori and lambda Ori. We find that 196 targets are cluster members based on their radial velocity, the equivalent

Low Mass Ratio Contact Binary V410 Aur and V776 Cas - II [PDF]
New BVR CCD light curves of the low mass ratio contact binaries, V410 Aur and V776 Cas, were observed with the 61 cm reflector and a 2K CCD camera at the Sobaeksan Astronomical Observatory.

We used an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) to derive the orbital parameters of spectroscopic binary stars. Using measured radial velocity data of seven double-lined spectroscopic binary systems V373 Cas, V2388 Oph, V401 Cyg, GM Dra, V523 Cas, AB And, and

The occurrence of classical Cepheids in binary systems
Classical Cepheids, like binary stars, are laboratories for stellar evolution and Cepheids in binary systems are especially powerful ones. About one-third of Galactic Cepheids are known to have companions and Cepheids in eclipsing binary systems have ...

The eclipsing, double-lined, Of supergiant binary Cyg OB2-B17 [PDF]
Massive, eclipsing, double-lined, spectroscopic binaries are not common but are necessary to understand the evolution of massive stars as they are the only direct way to determine stellar masses.
