JND-Based Perceptual Video Coding for 4:4:4 Screen Content Data in HEVC [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The JCT-VC standardized Screen Content Coding (SCC) extension in the HEVC HM RExt + SCM reference codec offers an impressive coding efficiency performance when compared with HM RExt alone; however, it is not significantly perceptually optimized.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Automatic Speech Recognition for Indonesian using Linear Predictive Coding (LPC) and Hidden Markov Model (HMM) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Speech recognition is influential signal processing in communication technology. Speech recognition has allowed software to recognize the spoken word. Automatic speech recognition could be a solution to recognize the spoken word.

Interframe differential coding of line spectrum frequencies [PDF]

open access: yes, 1994
Cataloged from PDF version of article.Line spectrum frequencies (LSF's) uniquely represent the linear predictive coding (LPC) filter of a speech frame. In many vocoders LSF's are used to encode the LPC parameters.

Next‐generation proteomics improves lung cancer risk prediction

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This is one of very few studies that used prediagnostic blood samples from participants of two large population‐based cohorts. We identified, evaluated, and validated an innovative protein marker model that outperformed an established risk prediction model and criteria employed by low‐dose computed tomography in lung cancer screening trials.

Guest editor's note [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
During speaking, the mental lexicon is accessed to select the necessary words, and to retrieve their phonological and syntactic patterns. However, the nature of real-time activation of words and phonological rules is largely unknown.

LDAcoop: Integrating non‐linear population dynamics into the analysis of clonogenic growth in vitro

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Limiting dilution assays (LDAs) quantify clonogenic growth by seeding serial dilutions of cells and scoring wells for colony formation. The fraction of negative wells is plotted against cells seeded and analyzed using the non‐linear modeling of LDAcoop.

Pre‐analytical optimization of cell‐free DNA and extracellular vesicle‐derived DNA for mutation detection in liquid biopsies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pre‐analytical handling critically determines liquid biopsy performance. This study defines practical best‐practice conditions for cell‐free DNA (cfDNA) and extracellular vesicle–derived DNA (evDNA), showing how processing time, storage conditions, tube type, and plasma input volume affect DNA integrity and mutation detection.

Compressed Domain Packet Loss Concealment of Sinusoidally Coded Speech [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
In this paper we consider the problem of packet loss concealment for Voice over IP (VoIP). The speech signal is compressed at the transmitter using A sinusoidal coding scheme working at 8 kbit/s.

Chameleon sequences reveal structural effects in proteins representing micelle‐like distribution of hydrophobicity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amino acids sequence of two different proteins with the same sequence (chameleon sequence—black boxes) represent in 3D structure of the proteins different secondary structures: HHHH—helical and BBB—Beta‐structural. The chains folded in water environment adopt different III‐order structures in which the chameleon fragments appear to adopt similar status
