Interference Pattern Caused by Bilateral Bone Conduction Stimulation Impairs Sound Localization

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work explores how crosstalk‐induced wave interference affects bone conduction (BC) sound localization. Using a theoretical model, cadaveric vibrometry, and psychoacoustic tests, atypical BC lateralization patterns are revealed that contradict air conduction (AC) principles.

Toward the Clinical Translation of Implantable Brain–Computer Interfaces for Motor Impairment: Research Trends and Outcome Measures

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Implantable brain–computer interfaces (iBCIs) are rapidly approaching clinical translation. This review maps key trends in the development of iBCIs and highlights the lack of standardised clinical outcome measures. It discusses a proposed framework for the selection of outcome measures in clinical trials and introduces a new international registry of ...

A Wearable AI‐Driven Mask with Humidity‐Sensing Respiratory Microphone for Non‐Vocal Communication

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A wearable, plug‐and‐play respiratory microphone—featuring a gold nanoparticle‐based humidity sensor—facilitates voice‐free verbal communication for patients with impaired vocal fold function. Abstract Hoarseness and dysphonia caused by vocal cord conditions or laryngeal surgeries significantly hinder communication and quality of life.

Wide Linearity Range and Rapid‐Response Tactile Sensor Inspired by Parallel Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Inspired by parallel structures, a composite tactile sensor design is proposed using parallel elastomer integration, developing two novel sensors. This strategy optimizes the force‐electric response and viscoelastic hysteresis of the conductive composite, achieving a balanced enhancement of linear sensing range and fast response.

Modality-independent recruitment of inferior frontal cortex during speech processing in human infants

open access: yesDevelopmental Cognitive Neuroscience, 2018
Despite increasing interest in the development of audiovisual speech perception in infancy, the underlying mechanisms and neural processes are still only poorly understood.
