Use of the Speech Transmission Index for the assessment of sound annoyance in open-plan offices
International audienceIn open-plan offices, employees often have to work despite being distracted by multiple sources of speech close to them. This disturbance is even more severe when the surrounding conversations are intelligible.

A flexible pressure sensor utilizing a 3D dual‐pore polyurethane structure is developed to overcome the intrinsic trade‐off between sensitivity and linearity. By inducing sequential buckling through distinct pore sizes and shapes, the device achieves highly linear and sensitive responses across a wide pressure range.

Subjective indices related to speech transmission in classrooms - an appraisal
Speech intelligibility is a subjective performance index defined as the percentage of a message understood correctly. Often the results of speech intelligibility tests would suggest that conditions are acceptable, with Intelligibility Score (IS) of the ...

Machine Learning Enables Inverse Design of Optically Driven Microscopic Metavehicles
Machine‐learning‐based inverse design is used optimize “metavehicles” — flat microparticles based on metagratings that generate a strong lateral optical force from normally incident light. The optimized design exhibits a force efficiency of ∼88% and a measured propulsion speed in water much higher than previously reported, demonstrating that inverse ...

Information Transmission Strategies for Self‐Organized Robotic Aggregation
In this review, we discuss how information transmission influences the neighbor‐based self‐organized aggregation of swarm robots. We focus specifically on local interactions regarding information transfer and categorize previous studies based on the functions of the information exchanged.

An Improved Vector Quantisation Algorithm for Speech Transmission Over Noisy Channels
Vector quantisation (VQ) is a method widely used in low bit-rate coding and transmission of speech signals. Unfortunately, a single bit error in the transmitted index, due to noise in the transmission channel, could degrade perceived speech quality at ...

Here, we present a textile, wearable capacitive interface enabling multidirectional remote control by dynamically modulating electrode overlap and spacing via a freely gliding upper electrode. A forearm‐mounted prototype drives robotic and media tasks with 12–15 ms latency, maintains < 0.8% drift after 500 cycles, and remains stably functional at 90 ...

Multimodal Human–Robot Interaction Using Human Pose Estimation and Local Large Language Models
A multimodal human–robot interaction framework integrates human pose estimation (HPE) and a large language model (LLM) for gesture‐ and voice‐based robot control. Speech‐to‐text (STT) enables voice command interpretation, while a safety‐aware arbitration mechanism prioritizes gesture input for rapid intervention.

LLM‐Integrated Human–Robot Interaction System for Microrobots
This paper proposes an LLM‐based control framework for guiding microrobots using human natural language. This framework can convert the natural human speech into safe and executable command sets for reliable navigation in complex environments. The experimental results show high accuracy and robustness in task performance, demonstrating the potential of
