Analysis of short-time speech transmission index algorithms

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2008
Various methods have been shown to compute the Speech Transmission Index (STI) using speech as a probe stimulus (Goldsworthy & Greenberg, J. Acoust. Soc. Am., 116, 3679-3689, 2004). Frequency-domain methods, while accurate at predicting the long-term STI, cannot predict short-term changes due to fluctuating backgrounds.

Comparison of Direct and Indirect Methods of Speech Transmission Index Assessment

International Journal of Computing
In this paper, direct and indirect methods of speech transmission index (STI) estimation are compared. Two versions of the indirect method of the STI estimating are considered. In the first version of the indirect method, a pair of signals is used as a test signal.

Transient-based speech transmission index for predicting intelligibility in nonlinear speech enhancement processors

2012 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech and Signal Processing (ICASSP), 2012
A new speech intelligibility metric is proposed for the assessment of speech enhancement processors. These processors usually affect the fine structure in speech that is of fundamental importance to speech intelligibility. Classical metrics analyze the entire signal and thereby generally overestimate intelligibility.

OBJECTIVE SPEECH INTELLIGIBILITY MEASURES BASED ON SPEECH TRANSMISSION INDEX FOR FORENSIC APPLICATIONS

2010
An objective measure of speech intelligibility is required in order to guess whether or not the written transcription made from an intercept recording is an accurate representation of the talker's speech or if it is influenced by the views of the transcribers.
