Competitive performance predictors in speed climbing, bouldering, and lead climbing

Journal of Sports Sciences, 2023
The study modelled the influence of anthropometric components, climbing-specific power, strength and endurance parameters, flexibility, coordination, and motor planning skills on competitive climbing performance in speed, bouldering, and lead climbing. Sixty-one competitive climbers (26 women [18.1 ± 1.9y], 35 men [21.4 ± 6.1y]) participated.

Multi-sensor, high speed autonomous stair climbing

IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and System, 2003
Small, tracked mobile robots designed for general urban mobility have been developed for the purpose of reconnaissance and/or search and rescue missions in buildings and cities. Autonomous stair climbing is a significant capability required for many of these missions. In this paper we present the design and implementation of a new set of estimation and

Functional Predictors of Stair-Climbing Speed in Older Adults

Journal of Geriatric Physical Therapy, 2014
Falls on stairs are a common cause of injury and death among older adults. Although stair climbing is a component of some instruments that assess activities of daily living, normal speeds for safe stairway ambulation have not been established. Furthermore, little is known about which components of functional mobility are most highly associated with ...

Influence of ascent speed on rock climbing economy

Sport Sciences for Health, 2012
In some types of human and animal locomotion, speed influences the amount of metabolic energy expended per unit mass and distance (energy cost, EC) and as speed decreases or increases away from a healthy person’s self-selected speed (SSS), the EC increases.
