Reliability of stair-climbing speed in two cohorts of older adults

International Journal of Therapy and Rehabilitation, 2021
Background/Aims The ability to climb stairs is an important prerequisite for activities of daily living and social participation in older adults, and is therefore an important part of rehabilitation. However, there is no consensus on how to measure stair-climbing ability.

Continuous high-speed climbing control and leg mechanism for an eight-legged stair-climbing vehicle

2009 IEEE/ASME International Conference on Advanced Intelligent Mechatronics, 2009
This paper proposes a control algorithm for continuous high-speed stair climbing for an eight-legged stair-climbing vehicle, and discusses a new leg mechanism to implement this control. The control algorithm was first simulated to verify its effectiveness, and then implemented with a vehicle prototype, which continuously climbed a set of steps at ...

A wheel-based cable climbing robot with descending speed restriction

2008 Chinese Control and Decision Conference, 2008
A new wheel-based cable climbing robot which is able to climb up the vertical cylindrical cable on the cable-stayed bridge was proposed. Unlike the previous one, the new designed robot proposed in this paper is composed of two equally spaced modules, which are joined by connecting bars to form a closed hexagonal body to clasp on the cable.

The Development of the Speed Hill-Climb Car

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part D: Journal of Automobile Engineering, 1994
This paper highlights the development of a very specialized class of race vehicle—the speed hill-climb car. The speed hill-climb discipline requires a unique set of performance parameters which places particular emphasis on traction. Historical development is traced through a review of successful cars to the top contenders of 1993 and the paper ...

Biomechanical analysis in ladder climbing: the effect of slant angle and climbing speed.

Proceedings of the National Science Council, Republic of China. Part B, Life sciences, 1995
This paper presents the findings of a study conducted to determine the peak forces generated in the articulated joints and the foot/floor contact point of a ladder while an individual was engaged in ladder climbing. A kinematic description of joint movements and the calculation of forces acting on each body segment as well as the foot of the ladder ...

A New Method for Calculating the Climbing speeds of Aeroplanes of Great Climbing Capacity

The Journal of the Royal Aeronautical Society, 1935
For the calculation of the climbing speeds of aeroplanes several methods are in use, which, as is well known, do not yield quite accurate results when applied to machines with great climbing capacities, and give rise to inaccuracies which become of greater importance with increasing climbing capacity of the plane. The climbing speed, up to the present,
