The Impact of Priming on Speed Reduction on a Ski Slope

The Journal of Primary Prevention, 2018
We tested a field-adapted priming procedure (a technique used to subtly activate mental representations and guide behavior) on a ski slope, with the goal of reducing risk behavior in winter sports. At cableway stations, skiers were initially exposed eight times to a prevention poster displaying a logo and a "slow down" message.

Speed reduction on through roads in nordrhein-westfalen

Accident Analysis & Prevention, 1992
The paper describes a program of experiments for speed reduction on 28 through roads in Nordrhein-Westfalen. In the process, different measures of construction, design, and traffic control were examined to determine their usefulness to reduce speed and to improve road safety. The need for systematic evaluation of a catalogue of measures partly resulted

Harmonic Reduction in Adjustable-Speed Synchronous Motors

IEEE Power Engineering Review, 2001
Summary form only given, as follows. Adjustable-speed synchronous motors (ASSM) are very popular in high-power high-speed applications. The Chilean mining industry uses them in milling operations in ranges of several thousands hp. Although a high pulse number for the inverter would be beneficial, it never goes beyond 12, due to complicated connections.

The duration of speed reductions attributable to radar detectors∗

Accident Analysis & Prevention, 1993
The duration of speed reductions attributable to radar detector use was observed. When the entire traffic stream was exposed to police radar, the proportion of vehicles traveling more than 10 mph over the speed limit dropped initially from 42% to 28%, but by one mile after exposure, this percentage had already increased to 38%.

Evaluating the Speed Reduction Effectiveness of Speed Bump on Local Streets

ICCTP 2011, 2011
The effects of speed bump on reducing vehicle speeds are still unclear though they have been extensively used on local streets in China. The primary objective of this paper is to evaluate the impacts of speed bump on speed reduction on local streets. The research team measured 3,000 vehicle speed observations at 15 locations around speed bumps on local

Feature Reduction to Speed Up Malware Classification

2012
In statistical classification work, one method of speeding up the process is to use only a small percentage of the total parameter set available. In this paper, we apply this technique both to the classification of malware and the identification of malware from a set combined with cleanware.

Evaluation of the Speed Reduction Effects of Automated Speed Enforcements on Freeways

ICCTP 2011, 2011
Automated speed enforcement (ASE) has been considered an effective approach to reduce speeding on freeways. Until recently, however, impacts of ASE on vehicle speeds on freeways are still not clear in China. The primary objective of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of ASE in reducing vehicle speeds and speeding on freeways.

The effect of voluntary speed reduction criteria on attainable ship speed

2015
The reasons for ship speed reduction in a seaway may generally be divided into two categories: natural reasons, such as the added resistance due to wind and waves, change of wake field and loss of thrust ; technical or “design” reasons that are controlled by the shipmaster, such as very large motion amplitudes, velocities and accelerations, slamming ...

Measuring the Impacts of Speed Reduction Technologies

Transportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board, 2005
This paper presents the results of a quantitative and qualitative evaluation of a dynamic curve warning system deployed at one site on Interstate 5 in Oregon. On a dynamic message sign, the system displays messages directed to drivers on the basis of the observed speed of approaching vehicles.

SPEED REDUCTION UNIT WITH BEARING

1995
In a speed reduction unit adapted for attachment to a load-bearing structure (1) of a consumer through its casing (4), and being provided with bearings (17, 18) for supporting the output shaft (14) as well as the consumer itself, the casing (4) is secured on the load-bearing structure (1) through an intervening swing mount (20; 30) making for easier ...
