Propfan noise propagation [PDF]

open access: yes
The unconventional supersonic tip speed of advanced propellers has led to uncertainties about Propfan's noise acceptability and compliance with Federal Aviation Noise Regulation (FAR 36).

Theory of Robustness of Irreversible Differentiation in a Stem Cell System: Chaos hypothesis

open access: yes, 2000
Based on extensive study of a dynamical systems model of the development of a cell society, a novel theory for stem cell differentiation and its regulation is proposed as the ``chaos hypothesis''.

Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

Effective Labor Regulation and Microeconomic Flexibility [PDF]

open access: yes
Microeconomic flexibility, by facilitating the process of creative-destruction, is at the core of economic growth in modern market economies. The main reason for why this process is not infinitely fast is the presence of adjustment costs, some of them ...

Performance of the electrical controls for the Mini-Brayton system [PDF]

open access: yes
The design theory and performance of a breadboard of the proposed Mini-Brayton electrical control system is presented. The Mini-Brayton is a nuclear isotope powered dynamic power conversion system. Testing was performed with an electronic simulation of a

Application of fuzzy logic to power system stabilizer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Power systems stability is a complex problem which was first recognised in 1920 and has been widely investigated by power system engineers ever since.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.
