Information Processing & Management, 1991Abstract Some mistakes in spelling and typing produce correct words, such as typing “fig” when “fog” was intended. These errors are undetectable by traditional spelling correction techniques. In this paper we present a statistical technique capable of detecting and correcting some of these errors when they occur in sentences.

Spelling correction using probabilistic methods
Pattern Recognition Letters, 1984A probabilistic procedure is suggested for the automatic correction of spelling and typing errors in printed English texts. The heart of the procedure is a probabilistic model for the generation of the garbled word from the correct word.
