Simulation-based PRA for spent fuel pool

open access: yes, 2022
This report presents an approach to simulation-based PRA of a spent fuel pool. Simulation-based event tree models are developed to analyse loss of offsite power (LOOP) and transient scenarios of a fictive spent fuel pool. In the simulation-based event tree, event timings, such as failure times of components and durations of manual actions, are ...

Characterization of Macro/Microstructure and Corrosion Resistance of Austenitic Gas Tungsten Arc Welding Cladding

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Cladding is a proven method that boosts the surface qualities of mechanical parts by applying a layer of more durable material over a base substrate. This work responds to the needs of offshore and pressure vessels sectors by focusing on cladding a super austenitic steel onto low‐carbon steel through gas tungsten arc welding.

Recycling of NiTi Shape Memory Alloys: Fundamental and Technological Aspects of a Vacuum Induction Melting Processing Route

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The present study investigates recycling of NiTi shape memory alloys via vacuum induction melting. An ingot was synthesized from elemental Ni and Ti and subjected to three subsequent remelting cycles. Remelting increases process durations and impurity levels and adversely affects microstructures and functional properties.

Determination of dose rate during the inspection of spent fuel element in the testing cell

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Radiation Sciences, 2020
Testing cell a hot cell is responsible for inspecting the spent fuel elements in open pool type reactor. Because the spent fuel elements examination in the testing cell would result in rising in radiation dose level, a previous precaution should be ...

Reducing the Danger from Fires in Spent Fuel Pools [PDF]

open access: yesScience & Global Security, 2016
ABSTRACTThis article reviews the case of the spent fuel fire that almost happened at Fukushima in March 2011, and shows that, had the wind blown the released radioactivity toward Tokyo, 35 million people might have required relocation. It then reviews the findings by the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) in 2013 that the consequences of

Targeting Lactate and Lactylation in Cancer Metabolism and Immunotherapy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Lactate, once deemed a metabolic waste, emerges as a central regulator of cancer progression. This review elucidates how lactate and its epigenetic derivative, protein lactylation, orchestrate tumor metabolism, immune suppression, and therapeutic resistance.
