Dynamic Bismuth Clusters in an Ionic Conducting Copper Iodide Matrix

open access: yesZeitschrift für anorganische und allgemeine Chemie, EarlyView.
The cubic room‐temperature structure of (Bi9)[Cu8I13] shows dynamic effects that involve fluctuations in bonding within the (Bi9)5+ polycation and mobility of the Cu+ cations. Flash freezing results in a fully ordered, polar monoclinic structure, which can be interpreted as a hierarchical filling variant of the NaZn13 structure type.

Oxygen application to chloride leaching of complex sulfide ores [PDF]

open access: yes, 1987
The study investigates leaching of complex sulfide ores with simultaneous regeneration of the leaching solution and removal of dissolved iron to balance the iron concentration in the leaching process.

Archaeometric provenance study of marbles from Porphyreon and Chhim (Lebanon) and early Byzantine production specialisation

open access: yesArchaeometry, EarlyView.
Abstract Early Byzantine marble objects from Porphyreon and Chhim (Lebanon) were studied to assess the source of raw materials. In all, 66 artefacts, including elements of liturgical furnishings, architectural elements and daily use objects, were examined using optical, cathodoluminescence and scanning electron microscopy, X‐ray diffraction, and δ13C ...

Skeletal crystals of sphalerite in chalcopyrite

open access: yesThe Journal of the Japanese Association of Mineralogists, Petrologists and Economic Geologists, 1956
Under the microscope, skeletal crystals of sphalerite are found in chalcopyrite from the Kawayama, Oya, Ashio and Daira mines. They are belived as due to exsolution of a solid solution. The writers have made thermal studies on skeletal crystals of sphalerite.

Room‐temperature dislocation plasticity in ceramics: Methods, materials, and mechanisms

open access: yesJournal of the American Ceramic Society, EarlyView.
Abstract Dislocation‐mediated plastic deformation in ceramic materials has sparked renewed research interest due to the technological potential of dislocations. Despite the long research history of dislocations as one‐dimensional lattice defects in crystalline solids, the understanding of plastically deformable ceramics at room temperature seems ...

Formation mechanism, stability and role of zinc and sulfur vacancies on the electronic properties and optical response of ZnS [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Combining experimental and theoretical tools, we report that Zn vacanciesplay an important role in the electronic and optical responses of ZnS sphalerite. The defective surface of ZnS (001) single crystal prepared in ultra-highvacuum conditions, has been shown to exhibit a semiconducting character instead of the insulating properties of the pristine ...

G.O.Joe: A New Non‐Commercial Software Tool for the Processing of LA‐ICP‐MS Trace Element Data

open access: yesGeostandards and Geoanalytical Research, Volume 49, Issue 2, Page 281-294, June 2025.
Key points G.O. Joe is developed to calculate trace element mass fractions including interference corrections. It is a freely accessible and platform‐independent web application to facilitate immediate data evaluation. Key feature is a simple, time‐efficient and flexible workflow to significantly improve data quality in various trace element studies ...

Descriptive Mineralogy of Pugh Quarry, Northwestern Ohio: Sphalerite [PDF]

open access: yes, 1978
Author Institution: Department of Geology, Miami UniversityThe Devonian rocks at Pugh Quarry have three distinct types of sphalerite (banded massive, spheroidal, and tiny euhedral). Occurrence of the banded massive sphalerite is restricted to the mineral

Photoplastic effect in II–VI semiconductors: The role of hole redistribution in dislocation glide

open access: yesJournal of the American Ceramic Society, Volume 108, Issue 6, June 2025.
Abstract Photoplasticity in semiconductors, characterized by the modification of plastic deformation under light, has long been recognized but its underlying mechanisms remain elusive. Here, we integrated quantum mechanics (QM) simulations with nanoindentation experiments to investigate the impact of light‐induced electron‐hole pairs on the plastic ...
