Mucocele of the Sphenoid Sinus
Archives of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, 1957Mucocele of the sphenoid sinus is interesting not only because of its great rarity but also because it has usually been misdiagnosed as a malignant, neoplastic disease. Definition A mucocele of the nasal accessory sinuses has been defined as "an accumulation and retention of mucous secretion within an accessory nasal sinus, generally associated with ...

Aspergillosis of the Sphenoid Sinus
Archives of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, 1978Three of the four previously described patients with isolated aspergilosis of the sphenois sinus died, owing to intracranial extension of the infection. The case reports of two patients with sphenoid aspergillosis are presented in which surgical exteriorization and aeration of the involved sinus was curative.

Pathology of the Sphenoidal Sinus
Archives of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, 1958Interest in the sphenoidal sinus began when Rouge1in 1872 happened to find in a cadaver a sphenoidal sinus filled with pus. But access to the sphenoidal sinus by instruments was at that time considered impossible. Zuckerkandl,2the anatomist, was the first to show how to reach it.

Lymphangioma of the sphenoid sinus
The Journal of Laryngology & Otology, 2003Lymphangiomas are rare benign lymphatic tumours found predominantly in the head and neck region. A case of a cavernous lymphangioma isolated to the sphenoid sinus is described. The authors emphasize the extreme rarity of the isolated sphenoid lymphangioma, as to their knowledge this is the first report in the English literature.

Neurilemoma of the Sphenoid Sinus
Archives of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, 1974Neurogenic tumors of the upper respiratory tract are uncommon. These tumors may arise from elements of the neural crest, sympathetic neural tissue, neuroglial tissue, and peripheral nerve. From peripheral nerve can arise the neurofibroma, or, less commonly, the neurilemoma that arises from the sheath of Schwann. Although neurilemomas have been found in

Mucoceles of The Sphenoid Sinus
Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery, 1979Mucoceles of the sphenoid sinuses are uncommon; 60 cases have been reported in the world literature to date. Signs and symptoms are caused by local expansion of the mucocele and include headache (the most common symptom), ocular field deficits, external ophthalmoplegia (particularly the sixth cranial nerve), and proptosis. Radiologic correlation in the

Sphenoid sinus mucocele is a rare entity that can occur alone or as a result of ethmoid sinusitis and polyposis. A myriad of presentations is possible due to the presence of important contiguous neurologic and vascular structures. Past surgical approaches to the sphenoid sinus have problems associated with them.

The Sphenoid Sinus, The Neglected Nasal Sinus
Archives of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, 1978O. E. Van Alyea stated that "The sphenoid sinus is the most neglected of the nasal sinuses." It is neglected by disease because of its location, by the physician because of its subtle symptoms when diseased, and the surgeon because of its inaccessability. An accurate knowledge and understanding of the anatomy of the area help the physician diagnose and
