Geomagnetic spherical harmonic analysis

pure and applied geophysics, 1969
An attempt is made to determine the optimum representation of the geomagnetic field in terms of spherical harmonics with regard to the number of parameters required for an adequate accuracy of fit, and considering the effect of allowing for the oblateness of the earth.

Spherical harmonic analysis of the electroencephalogram

Sixth Multidimensional Signal Processing Workshop, 2003
Summary form only given. The theoretical and practical problems of performing spherical harmonic analysis (SHA) on the electroencephalogram (EEG) have been investigated. One problem considered is related to sampling theory, that is, determining the effect of sample positions and detecting the presence of spatial aliasing.

Parallel computation for spherical harmonic synthesis and analysis

Computers & Geosciences, 2007
The objectives of this research were to develop computational techniques for parallel computers capable of performing computations of spherical harmonic analysis and synthesis for ultra-high degree and order. The FFT method was used as a basis for the numerical scheme.

Spherical harmonics in texture analysis

Tectonophysics, 2003
Abstract The objective of this contribution is to emphasize the fundamental role of spherical harmonics in constructive approximation on the sphere in general and in texture analysis in particular. The specific purpose is to present some methods of texture analysis and pole-to-orientation probability density inversion in a unifying approach, i.e.

Spherical harmonic analysis of a novel Halbach array PM spherical motor

2007 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Biomimetics (ROBIO), 2007
A design concept of a Halbach array permanent magnet (PM) spherical motor is proposed in this paper. Based on spherical harmonic functions, the three dimensional (3-D) magnetic fields produced by ball-shaped Halbach array rotor and parallel-magnetization rotor are analyzed.

Spherical cap harmonic analysis

Journal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, 1985
The solution of Laplace's equation, in spherical coordinates, is developed for the boundary value problem appropriate to fitting the geomagnetic field over a spherical cap. The solution involves associated Legendre functions of integral order but nonintegral degree.

Modelling and Analysis of Vertebra Deformations with Spherical Harmonics

2002
In this paper we present an elaborate and precise geometrical model of the spine structure based on spherical harmonics. We first describe the application of spherical harmonics to the modelling of the vertebra surface, then we study the behaviour of the model under particular deformations.

A spherical harmonic analysis of the Earth's topography

Journal of Geophysical Research, 1973
In 1964–1965 estimates were made of the percentage of land, average land elevation, and average ocean depth in each 1° × 1° square and of percentages of lake and ice and average lake depth and ice thickness in each 5° × 5° square. These estimates were made visually, and the following maps were used:

Spherical harmonic analysis on hemisphere

Solar Physics, 1992
The spherical harmonic analysis on hemisphere is reexamined to apply in helioseismology. New methods of mode identification are proposed to analyze the line-of-sight component which is expressed in terms of six spherical harmonics.

On the aliasing problem in the spherical harmonic analysis

Journal of Geodesy, 1990
To apply the least squares method for the interpolation of harmonic functions is a common practice in Geodesy. Since the method of least squares can be applied only to overdetermined problem, the interpolation problem which is always under-determined, is often reduced to an overdetermined form by truncating a series of spherical harmonics.
