Abstract The design of the contact profiles of spur gears with involute teeth is well developed, with industry standards that set values for pressure angle and ratios for virtually all dimensions. This is not the case for bevel gears, where involute teeth, although known for several years, haven’t been adopted by industry.

The spherical involute bevel gear: its geometry, kinematic behavior and standardization
Journal of Mechanical Science and Technology, 2011Bevel gear processing has diversified based on constant technical developments in forging, CNC cutting and hob design. Standardization of bevel gears is in higher demand than ever for different bevel gear systems that have different shapes and forms according to processing methods.

Analysis and Manufacture of Skew Bevel Gears with Spherical Involute
Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2013Skew bevel gears are fundamental element of transmission system. Processing quality of skew bevel gears has impact on the performance of system. An accurate processing method of tooth surface of skew bevel gears with spherical involute is proposed. According to the space meshing theory, the meshing equation of skew bevel gears is built by the theory of

The Modeling of Bevel Gears Using the Exact Spherical Involute
15th Design Automation Conference: Volume 1 — Computer-Aided and Computational Design, 1989Abstract The solid modeling of bevel gears has been recognized as a major design challenge. Various approaches have been proposed to approximate the theoretical involute-generated contact surface of bevel gears. As a means to accurately represent contact surfaces of these gears, the exact spherical involute is introduced here.

Mechanism and Machine Theory, 2016
Abstract The involute profile is the most commonly used tooth profile for cylindrical gears. However, its counterpart for bevel gears is not commonly used because its generation is not compatible with the use of easy-to-manufacture cutting tools and market-oriented generation methods.

Research on transmission principle and kinematics analysis for involute spherical gear
Frontiers of Mechanical Engineering in China, 2006A new kind of transmission-type spherical gear called ‘ring involute spherical gear mechanism’ is introduced. Compared to the famous TRALLFA spherical gear, this new spherical gear has an involute tooth profile, and a ring tooth that is distributed continuously on the surface of the sphere.

New Tooth Profile Design of Spiral Bevel Gears with Spherical Involute
International Journal of Advancements in Computing Technology, 2012Based on the generating line principle of spiral bevel gear, this paper researches the conjugation meshing mechanism of line contact between the meshing surfaces, and proposes a new theory for designing the tooth profile of spiral bevel gear. A certain tooth surface design of spiral bevel gear with spherical involute is analyzed deeply as an example ...

Parametric Modeling of the Tooth-Surface of Spiral Bevel Gears with Spherical Involute
Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2012Based on the the principle of generating line of spiral bevel gears, a new modeling method about spiral bevel gears is proposed. Mathematical pattern of spiral bevel gears with spherical involute is developed about two parameters. A kind of simulation modeling software of spiral bevel gears with spherical involute is developed in matlab-guide ...

Derivation of design formula for a shifted spherical involute bevel gear pair
Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part C: Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science, 2016The development of shifted spherical involute bevel gear will lead to increased flexibility and convenience in the design of the cross-axis gear system. The shifted spherical involute bevel gear is identified by the axis angle change between the crown rack and work piece.

Wavelet application research on tooth surface of spherical involute spiral bevel gear [PDF]
In order to improve the machining accuracy of spiral bevel gears, a scheme based on the cubic B-spline wavelet was proposed. Based on the principle of spherical involute formation, a program was made in MATLAB to obtain the coordinate data of discrete points of the tooth surface.
