Finite element torque modeling for the design of a spherical motor
7th International Conference on Control, Automation, Robotics and Vision, 2002. ICARCV 2002., 2004This paper presents the method of modeling the torque generated by a variable reluctance spherical motor (VRSM) that presents some attractive possibilities by combining pitch, roll, and yaw motion in a single joint. Unlike prior works on the torque formulation of a VRSM, which were based on a lumped-parameter approach using equivalent magnetic circuits

Localized Electroosmosis (LEO) Induced by Spherical Colloidal Motors
Langmuir, 2014Experimental data show that the speed of colloidal (catalytic) motors decreases as the size of the motor particles increases. However, previous electrokinetic models have shown that the colloidal motor speed for spheres is independent of size, at least for the case of infinitesimally thin double layers and reaction-limited catalysis.

A Spherical DC Servo Motor With Three Degrees of Freedom
Journal of Dynamic Systems, Measurement, and Control, 1989A spherical DC servo motor with three degrees of freedom is proposed. First, the process of generating three-dimensional torque is analyzed to obtain the torque constant matrix. The matrix elements are shown to vary with rotor inclination, and winding currents are shown to interfere with each other.

An approach to basic design of the PM-type spherical motor
Proceedings 2001 ICRA. IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation (Cat. No.01CH37164), 2002The authors propose a spherical electromagnetic actuator using a surface motor. The main feature of this actuator is the ability to arrange the magnetic poles uniformly by distributing the stator's magnetic poles in triangular lattice. In this paper, we report the fundamental structure of this actuator and the secondary side permanent magnets ...

Multi-degree-of-freedom spherical permanent magnet motors
Proceedings 2001 ICRA. IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation (Cat. No.01CH37164), 2002The paper describes the analysis, design and control of two new versions of spherical permanent magnet motor, which are capable of two and three degrees-of-freedom of controlled motion, and have a high specific torque capability. Their magnetic field distribution is established using an analytical technique formulated in spherical coordinates.

A Spherical Planning Based Electrifying Strategy of Permanent Magnet Spherical Motor
Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2015Permanent Magnet SpherIcal Motor (PMSM) can be applIed on offshore O&M vessels for offshore wInd farms. An electrIfyIng strategy of PMSM Is proposed accordIng to the structure of PMSM wIth 3 layers of stator coIls. A statIc torque model of PMSM Is buIlt In thIs paper. In order to classIfy the statuses of rotor posItIon, spherIcal plannIng on stator
