An Infrared Camera for Leuschner Observatory and the Berkeley Undergraduate Astronomy Lab
We describe the design, fabrication, and operation of an infrared camera which is in use at the 30-inch telescope of the Leuschner Observatory. The camera is based on a Rockwell PICNIC 256 x 256 pixel HgCdTe array, which is sensitive from 0.9-2.5 micron.

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Self-Organizing Neural Networks for Spatial Planning and Flexible Arm Movement Control [PDF]
This talk will survey recent results concerning how the brain self-organizes its planning and control of flexible arm movements to accomplish spatially defined tasks at variable speeds and forces with a redundant arm that may be confronted with obstacles.

On the Normal Force and Static Friction Acting on a Rolling Ball Actuated by Internal Point Masses
The goal of this paper is to investigate the normal and tangential forces acting at the point of contact between a horizontal surface and a rolling ball actuated by internal point masses moving in the ball's frame of reference.

We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Low Profile Triangle-Shaped Piezoelectric Rotary Motor
In this paper, we present research on a novel low-profile piezoelectric rotary motor with a triangle-shaped stator. The stator of the motor comprises three interconnected piezoelectric bimorph plates forming an equilateral triangle.

The design and application of an antenna positioner mechanism for Intelsat-5 series communication satellite [PDF]
In opertion, the East/West spot beam reflectors on the Intelsat-5 series communication satellite are required to satisfy initial precise-pointing to particular Earth locations; and repositioning and pointing to different Earth locations as traffic ...

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...
