Skalenabhängiger Einfluss der Landschaft auf die Diversität epigäischer Spinnen in Winterrapsfeldern [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Agricultural intensification is a major threat to biological diversity worldwide. Land management activities enhancing landscape diversity are therefore regarded as a key strategy to halt species loss in cultural landscapes.

Microbial Odorant Detection Guides Drosophila Parasitoids Seeking Hosts in Fermenting Fruits

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Yeast microbes in fermenting fruits attract both host flies and their parasitoid wasps. Female Leptopilina boulardi detect yeast‐emitted ethyl esters via two olfactory receptors, LbouOR167 and LbouOR136. A conserved residue, Leu159, is critical for binding these compounds, enabling female wasps to locate host‐rich habitats.

Spider Universe:

open access: yes, 2014
THE image is from Lars von Trier’s film Antichrist [1] – indeed it pro-vided the basis for the promotional poster. I’m not going to talk about the famously phobic director today, but wish simply to indicate how the image and indeed the film ‘weaponises’ phobia, which is to say turns it into an offensive rather than ...

Epigeic spiders of the pastures of northern Wielkopolska [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The fauna of epigeic spiders (Araneae) occurring on three different types of pastures in northern Wielkopolska was analysed. Studies were conducted from May 1992 to October 1993.

Topology‐Enriched Toughness Enhancement in Quasi‐Periodic Metastructures Featuring Tailorable Strong‐Weak Network

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A quasi‐periodic Dart‐Kite (QDK) metastructure with a golden‐ratio‐constrained strong–weak bond network simultaneously enhances strength, toughness, and damage tolerance. Its distributed topology enables predictable, tailorable crack paths for precise fracture control and stable mechanics, demonstrating a high‐performance, controllable architecture ...

Synergistic Dual Slip‐Link Toughening of a Water‐Rich Double Network Hydrogel Combining Slide‐Ring and Highly Entangled Networks

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Two distinct slip‐link mechanisms – the slide‐ring pulley effect and highly entangled chains – are combined in a water‐rich double network hydrogel, achieving synergistic toughening, near‐complete reversibility, and exceptional friction tear resistance at >$>$91 wt.% water.

Wolf spiders (Araneae: Lycosidae) on the overgrowing peat bog in Dubravica (north-western Croatia) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The peat bog in Dubravica is of spread interest due to its overgrowing by the process of natural succession, causing the habitat to become dryer and shadier. The dominance structure and phenology of wolf spiders on the Dubravica bog was studied.

VAE+DDPG: An Attention‐Enhanced Variational Autoencoder for Deep Reinforcement Learning‐Based Autonomous Navigation in Low‐Light Environments

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Variational Autoencoder+Deep Deterministic Policy Gradient addresses low‐light failures of infrared depth sensing for indoor robot navigation. Stage 1 pretrains an attention‐enhanced Variational Autoencoder (Convolutional Block Attention Module+Feature Pyramid Network) to map dark depth frames to a well‐lit reconstruction, yielding a 128‐D latent code ...
