Spin-flip scattering in magnetic junctions [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review B, 1998
Processes which flip the spin of an electron tunneling in a junction made up of magnetic electrodes are studied. It is found that: i) Magnetic impurities give a contribution which increases the resistance and lowers the magnetoresistance, which saturates at low temperatures. The conductance increases at high fields.

Probing Spin-Flip Scattering in Ballistic Nanosystems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Because spin-flip length is longer than the electron mean-free path in a metal, past studies of spin-flip scattering are limited to the diffusive regime.

A new spin on neutrino quantum kinetics

open access: yesPhysics Letters B, 2015
Recent studies have demonstrated that in anisotropic environments a coherent spin-flip term arises in the Quantum Kinetic Equations (QKEs) which govern the evolution of neutrino flavor and spin in hot and dense media.

Generation of spin currents by a temperature gradient in a two-terminal device

open access: yesCommunications Physics, 2021
Spin caloritronics exploits the effect of temperature on spin currents with a focus on features such as spin dependent thermal conductance, which are ideally suited for next generation spintronic devices.

Spin-flip transitions in a magnetic trap

open access: yesPhysical Review A, 1997
There is currently a great deal of experimental interest in the trapping of alkali-metal atoms in magnetic traps. In this Brief Report we present a method for calculating nonadiabatic spin-flip transitions in such traps. We show that for realistic traps currently being used the loss rate due to this mechanism is exponentially small.

Comment on “Unexpected reduction of rf spin resonance strength for stored deuteron beams”

open access: yesPhysical Review Special Topics. Accelerators and Beams, 2008
I point out that the claim of an “unexpected” reduction of the resonance width in spin-flip studies reported in the paper by Krisch et al. [Phys. Rev. ST Accel.

Compton effect in terms of spintronic

open access: yesResults in Physics, 2016
Compton effect with spin effect is studied. Although the incoming wave has been taken into account in the current loop model the final result is the same as before.

Spin Polarization Crossing a Heterostructure of a Ferromagnetic/Semiconductor-Based Rashba Spin–Orbit Interaction: Tight Binding Approach

open access: yesPhysics
The spin polarization of current in a conventional ferromagnetic and semiconductor-based Rashba spin–orbit interaction (RSOI) in an infinite two-dimensional system and the electrical properties of the junction are described using the square lattice model.

Spin manipulation of 1.94  GeV/c polarized protons stored in the COSY cooler synchrotron

open access: yesPhysical Review Special Topics. Accelerators and Beams, 2004
We recently studied spin flipping of a 1.94  GeV/c vertically polarized proton beam at COSY in Jülich, Germany. We swept an rf-dipole’s frequency through an rf-induced spin resonance to flip the beam’s polarization direction.

Utility and appropriateness of the fatty Liver Inhibition of progression ( FLIP) Algorithm and Steatosis, Activity, and Fibrosis ( SAF) Score in the evaluation of Biopsies of Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease

open access: yes, 2014
Biopsy is still the gold standard for the diagnosis of nonalcoholic steatohepatitis but the definition may vary among pathologists, a drawback especially in evaluation of biopsies for clinical trials. We previously developed a scoring system (steatosis,
