Controllable Microparticle Spinning via Light without Spin Angular Momentum

Physical Review Letters
The spin angular momentum (SAM) of an elliptically or circularly polarized light beam can be transferred to matter to drive a spinning motion. It is counterintuitive to find that a light beam without SAM can also cause the spinning of microparticles.

Orbital Angular Momentum and Spin

1999
We have seen that, in nonrelativistic quantum mechanics, the angular momentum operator is the generator of rotations and commutes with the Hamiltonians of rotationally invariant (i. e., spherically symmetric) systems1. It thus plays a special role for such systems. For this reason, as a preliminary to the next topic — the Coulomb potential — we present
