Ferromagnetic-electrodes-induced Hall effect in topological Dirac semimetals

open access: yesPhysical Review Research, 2021
We propose an unconventional type of Hall effect in a topological Dirac semimetal with ferromagnetic electrodes. The topological Dirac semimetal itself has time-reversal symmetry, whereas attached ferromagnetic electrodes break it, causing the large Hall

Spin Hall effect of excitons [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review B, 2008
Spin Hall effect for excitons in alkali halides and in Cu_2O is investigated theoretically. In both systems, the spin Hall effect results from the Berry curvature in k space, which becomes nonzero due to lifting of degeneracies of the exciton states by exchange coupling.

Inverse spin Hall effect by spin injection [PDF]

open access: yesApplied Physics Letters, 2007
Motivated by a recent experiment [S. O. Valenzuela and M. Tinkham, Nature (London) 442, 176 (2006)], the authors present a quantitative microscopic theory to investigate the inverse spin-Hall effect with spin injection into aluminum considering both intrinsic and extrinsic spin-orbit couplings using the orthogonalized-plane-wave method.

Spin Hall effect, Hall effect, and spin precession in diffusive normal metals [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review B, 2005
We study transport in normal metals in an external magnetic field. This system exhibits an interplay between a transverse spin imbalance (spin Hall effect) caused by the spin-orbit interaction, a Hall effect via the Lorentz force, and spin precession due to the Zeeman effect. Diffusion equations for spin and charge flow are derived. The spin and charge

Spin-Hall conductivity and Hall angle in a two-dimensional system with impurities in the presence of spin–orbit interactions

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
We investigate the spin-torque-dependent Spin Hall phenomenon in a two-dimensional tight-binding system in the presence of Rashba and Dresselhaus spin–orbit interactions and random static impurities.

Giant Room Temperature Interface Spin Hall and Inverse Spin Hall Effects [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2016
The spin Hall angle (SHA) is a measure of the efficiency with which a transverse spin current is generated from a charge current by the spin-orbit coupling and disorder in the spin Hall effect (SHE). In a study of the SHE for a Pt$|$Py (Py=Ni$_{80}$Fe$_{20}$) bilayer using a first-principles scattering approach, we find a SHA that increases ...

THEORY OF RESONANT SPIN HALL EFFECT [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Modern Physics B, 2008
A brief review is presented on the resonant spin Hall effect, where a tiny external electric field induces a saturated spin Hall current in a 2-dimensional electron or hole gas in a perpendicular magnetic field. The phenomenon is attributed to the energy level crossing associated with the spin-orbit coupling and the Zeeman splitting.

Controllable spin current in van der Waals ferromagnet Fe_{3}GeTe_{2}

open access: yesPhysical Review Research, 2021
The control of spin current is pivotal for spintronic applications, especially for spin-orbit torque devices. The spin Hall effect is a prevalent method to generate spin current. However, it is difficult to manipulate its spin polarization in a nonmagnet.

Crystalline Orientation–Dependent Spin Hall Effect in Epitaxial Platinum

open access: yesFrontiers in Physics, 2022
We report on the spin Hall effect in epitaxial Pt films with well-defined crystalline (200), (220), and (111) orientations and smooth surfaces. The magnitude of the spin Hall effect has been determined by spin–torque ferromagnetic resonance measurements ...
