Ca2+-activated K+channels modulate microglia affecting motor neuron survival in hSOD1G93A mice [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a multifactorial disease characterized by the progressive degeneration of motor neurons (MN) and muscle paralysis. Despite current treatments, patients survive less than 3–5 years after the initial diagnosis.

Quantifying Performance of Bipedal Standing with Multi-channel EMG [PDF]

open access: yesIROS 2017, 2017
Spinal cord stimulation has enabled humans with motor complete spinal cord injury (SCI) to independently stand and recover some lost autonomic function. Quantifying the quality of bipedal standing under spinal stimulation is important for spinal rehabilitation therapies and for new strategies that seek to combine spinal stimulation and rehabilitative ...

MicroRNA profiling reveals marker of motor neuron disease in ALS models [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder marked by the loss of motor neurons (MNs) in the brain and spinal cord, leading to fatally debilitating weakness.

Immune Checkpoint PD‐L1 Modulates Retinal Microglial Activation to Alleviate Vascular Leakage in Choroidal Neovascularization via ERK

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
PD‐L1 limits neuroinflammation in neovascular AMD by modulating microglial activation. Its deficiency exacerbates vascular leakage and choroidal neovascularization (CNV) via ERK signaling, while enhancing PD‐L1 reduces inflammation and neovascularization. Targeting PD‐L1 may offer a novel immunomodulatory strategy for NVAMD.

Diffusion Kurtosis Imaging maps neural damage in the EAE model of multiple sclerosis [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
Diffusion kurtosis imaging (DKI), is an imaging modality that yields novel disease biomarkers and in combination with nervous tissue modeling, provides access to microstructural parameters. Recently, DKI and subsequent estimation of microstructural model parameters has been used for assessment of tissue changes in neurodegenerative diseases and their ...

Sexuality of people with spinal cord injury: an issue of health education

open access: yesScientific Electronic Archives, 2015
The spinal cord injury causes loss of sensation and movement below the level of injury, damaging some important functions in the body such as motor function, bladder control, bowel and sexual dysfunction.
