Uniqueness of gravitational constant at low energies from the connection between spin-2 and spin-0 sectors

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics
The fact that graviton propagator contains not only one but two tensorial components excludes a unique definition of the running behavior of the gravitational constant, while at low energies gravitation is characterized solely by Newton’s constant.

Spinozism, Kabbalism, and Idealism from Johann Georg Wachter to Moses Mendelssohn

open access: yesJournal of Modern Philosophy, 2021
The paper studies the historical background for the ‘idealist’ reading of Spinoza usually traced back to British and German Idealism. Here, I follow this history further back than and focus on one earlier idealist reading, indeed perhaps the mother of ...

Hegel's Theory of Absolute Spirit. Reflexive Practices in Hegel's Social Philosophy

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Philosophy, EarlyView.
Abstract This paper argues that Hegel's concept of absolute spirit should be understood as central to his social philosophy. Rather than designating a metaphysical endpoint, absolute spirit refers to reflexive practices—art, religion, and philosophy—through which societies critically engage with the norms and assumptions that structure social life ...

Inherence of False Beliefs in Spinoza’s Ethics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
In this paper I argue, based on a comparison of Spinoza's and Descartes‟s discussion of error, that beliefs are affirmations of the content of imagination that is not false in itself, only in relation to the object.

Hegel and Utopia

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Philosophy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT G.W.F. Hegel is usually held to be anti‐utopian in his political philosophy. I aim to challenge that standard reading, outlining and defending a more positive account of his relation to utopianism. The rational state described in Hegel's Grundlinien der Philosophie des Rechts (1820) is shown to fit an uncontroversial account of utopia without ...

Memory, Recollection and Consciousness in Spinoza's Ethics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Spinoza’s account of memory has not received enough attention, even though it is relevant for his theory of consciousness. Recent literature has studied the “pancreas problem.” This paper argues that there is an analogous problem for memories: if ...

On Schopenhauer's Debt to Spinoza1

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Philosophy, EarlyView.
Abstract Schopenhauer offers ‘nature is not divine but demonic’ as a direct rebuttal of Spinoza's pantheism, his identification of ‘nature’ with ‘God’. And so, one would think, he ought to have been immune to the ‘Spinozism’ that became, as Heine called it, ‘the unofficial religion’ of the age.

Gradient corrections to the quantum effective action

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics
We derive the quantum effective action up to second order in gradients and up to two-loop order for an interacting scalar field theory. This expansion of the effective action is useful to study problems in cosmological settings where spatial or time ...
