Futurizing ‘good construction(s)’: ‘Low-carbon’ and ‘labor’ futures in the Belgian construction sector

open access: yesTATuP – Zeitschrift für Technikfolgenabschätzung in Theorie und Praxis
In this article, we explore through a foresight exercise how the construction sector in Belgium envisions its transition until 2050. Drawing on the notion of “the good economy” (Asdal et al.

Spiral-wave drift towards low-ω region.

open access: yes, 2020
Figure shows the loci of a spiral tip, which was tracked using the method in ref. [49]. Time is shown in the vertical axis and the X and Y axes are the spatial dimensions of our simulation domain.

Minimal Fat Content in Papillary Renal Cell Carcinoma Diagnosed with Dual-Layer Dual-Energy CT

open access: yesDiagnostics, 2023
A 56-year-old man with a previous right nephrectomy for multiple papillary renal cell carcinomas (pRCC) underwent a follow-up CT scan. Using a dual-layer dual-energy CT (dlDECT), we demonstrated the presence of a small amount of fat in a 2.5 cm pRCC that

Uterine spiral artery remodeling involves endothelial apoptosis induced by extravillous trophoblasts through Fas/FasL interactions.

open access: yes, 2005
Objective— Invasion of uterine spiral arteries by extravillous trophoblasts in the first trimester of pregnancy results in loss of endothelial and musculoelastic layers.

Numerical Analysis of Three-Dimensional Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell with Spiral Channels [PDF]

open access: yesIranian Journal of Chemistry & Chemical Engineering
We introduce a 3D methodology based on the Finite Volume Method to solve the governing equations of the Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell with a spiral gas channel design. These equations were evaluated in both the anode and cathode gas channels.

Perianth Phyllotaxis Is Polymorphic in the Basal Eudicot Anemone and Eranthis Species

open access: yesFrontiers in Ecology and Evolution, 2020
Floral organs are clade-specifically arranged to either spiral or whorled (concentric circles) phyllotaxis. The basic number (merosity) of perianth organs within a whorl is limited to three in most monocots and to four or five in most eudicots.

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.
