Dynamically Driven Evolution of the Interstellar Medium in M51 [PDF]
Massive star formation occurs in giant molecular clouds (GMCs); an understanding of the evolution of GMCs is a prerequisite to develop theories of star formation and galaxy evolution. We report the highest-fidelity observations of the grand-design spiral

Very large spiral galaxies [PDF]
As a first step in the systematic study of large spirals, which may be useful in cosmological tests and studies of galaxy evolution, a catalog of the 107 largest known spiral galaxies is presented. Catalog galaxies have isophotal diameters greater than 90 kpc, assuming an H(zero) value of 50 km/sec per Mpc.

Identification of Intermediate-mass Black Hole Candidates among a Sample of Sd Galaxies
We analyzed images of every northern hemisphere Sd galaxy listed in the Third Reference Catalogue of Bright Galaxies with a relatively face-on inclination ( θ ≤ 30°). Specifically, we measured the spiral arms’ winding angle, ϕ , in 85 galaxies.

Study photometric properties of spiral galaxy NGC 4448 using CCD camera with multiband filters
The goal of our study is to perform detailed multiband surface photometry of the spiral galaxy NGC 4448 and its brightest star-forming regions. The structure and composition of the stellar population in the surface brightness galaxy NGC 4448 was studied

A Simple Model for Explaining Galaxy Rotation Curves
A new simple expression for the circular velocity of spiral galaxies is proposed and tested against HI Nearby Galaxy Survey (THINGS) data set. Its accuracy is compared with the one coming from MOND.

Outskirts of spiral galaxies [PDF]
AbstractI present an overview of the recent star formation activity in the outer disks of spiral galaxies, from the observational standpoint, with emphasis on the gas content, the star formation law, the metallicity and the stellar populations.

Grand Design versus Multiarmed Spiral Galaxies: Dependence on Galaxy Structure
We developed an algorithm to use Galaxy Zoo 3D spiral arm masks produced by citizen scientist volunteers to semiautomatically classify spiral galaxies as either multiarmed or grand design spirals. Our final sample consists of 299 multiarmed and 245 grand

Dark Gaps and Resonances in Barred Galaxies
Dark gaps, low surface brightness regions along the bar minor axis, are expected to form as a consequence of secular evolution in barred galaxies. Although several studies have proposed links between dark gap locations and dynamical resonances, the ...
