Recurrent Laryngeal Nerve Stretching in Tracheal Diverticulum: First Documented Mechanism of Hoarseness and Systematic Review of Literatures

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 2, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Tracheal diverticulum is a rare paratracheal air cyst. It is often asymptomatic. Large symptomatic cases may compress the recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN) and cause hoarseness. It is a rare presentation, in < 0.2 cases per year in the world.

Calprotectin Is a Circulating Biomarker and Potential Therapeutic Target for Sarcopenia in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

open access: yesJournal of Cachexia, Sarcopenia and Muscle, Volume 17, Issue 1, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Sarcopenia, an important complication of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), is significantly associated with increased mortality. Systemic inflammation is an important trigger of COPD‐related skeletal muscle dysfunction. Calprotectin is a damage‐associated molecular pattern involved in the inflammatory response, but its ...

A Psychometric Evaluation of Maximum Phonation Time and S/Z Ratio as Pragmatic Outcome Measures of Bulbar Function in Adults With Spinal Muscular Atrophy

open access: yesMuscle &Nerve, Volume 73, Issue 2, Page 297-303, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Introduction/Aims A pragmatic evaluation of bulbar function among adults with spinal muscular atrophy (awSMA) is needed, requiring the validation of a low‐cost, feasible outcome measure (OM). Maximum phonation time (MPT) and S/Z ratio (S/Z) are potential low‐cost OMs for bulbar function. This study aimed to evaluate the psychometric properties

Occult Sapodilla Seed Aspiration: Diagnostic Pitfalls and Retrieval Challenges

open access: yesRespirology Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 2, February 2026.
Bronchial foreign body aspiration in adults is uncommon and frequently misdiagnosed as asthma or pulmonary tuberculosis in endemic settings. We report a case of prolonged, treatment‐refractory respiratory symptoms caused by an unrecognised endobronchial sapodilla seed.
