Effects of glucagon on the splanchnic and the systemic circulation
The American Journal of Surgery, 1971Abstract 1. 1. Dogs were treated with an intravenous injection of 2 mg of glucagon. Hepatic, celiac, and superior mesenteric arterial blood flows and concomitant cardiac output rates were measured. Local and total peripheral resistance was calculated. Heart rate, systemic arterial pressure, central venous pressure, and portal venous pressure were

The effect of intestinal hormones on splanchnic circulation
Research in Experimental Medicine, 1978The influence of acidification of the duodenal contents, of intravenous secretin, cholecystokinin and pancreozym injections on hepatic (HAF) and left gastric artery (GAF) and on portal vein blood flow (PVF), bile and pancreatic juice output was studied in dogs. Acid introduction into the duodenum increased HAF and PVF by 20 and 25 percent, respectively.

Modified doppler flowmetry in the splanchnic circulation
Gastroenterology, 1993Absolute measurements of blood flow by Doppler ultrasonography are subject to substantial error. A simplified method of Doppler flowmetry using conventional duplex Doppler equipment was studied to establish its validity in determining short-term changes in flow in the splanchnic circulation in portal hypertension. Two simple indices were measured: peak ...

Splanchnic circulation in hypertension.
Federation proceedings, 1983The effect of arterial hypertension on the splanchnic circulation is assessed. In human essential hypertension, splanchnic vascular resistance rises in proportion to the blood pressure, and the transvascular escape rate of plasma proteins is increased.

The Systemic and Splanchnic Circulations
2010In liver cirrhosis, splanchnic and systemic hemodynamic abnormalities are common in patients with portal hypertension. Portal hypertension leads to progressive vasodilatation of the arteries of the splanchnic and systemic circulations, a key event which in turn exacerbates portal hypertension by increasing splanchnic blood flow.
