Multi-patch discontinuous Galerkin isogeometric analysis for wave propagation: explicit time-stepping and efficient mass matrix inversion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
We present a class of spline finite element methods for time-domain wave propagation which are particularly amenable to explicit time-stepping. The proposed methods utilize a discontinuous Galerkin discretization to enforce continuity of the solution ...

Contour Detection of Mammogram Masses Using ChanVese Model and B-Spline Approximation

open access: yesInternational Journal of Interactive Multimedia and Artificial Intelligence, 2017
ChanVese model segmentation has been applied for contour detection of mass region in mammogram in our previous work. Available information of the desired object contour is used, in this paper, for B-spline approximation. The mass region boundary (contour)

Perfect spline approximation

open access: yesJournal of Approximation Theory, 2003
Uniqueness and approximation orders of perfect splines are studied in this article. In the main result, upper bounds to the best approximation by perfect splines to continuous functions are provided. Moreover, the approximation results are related to the so-called \(\Sigma\Delta\) modulation of bandlimited univariate signals.

Bivariate segment approximation and splines [PDF]

open access: yesAdvances in Computational Mathematics, 1996
The problem to determine partitions of a given rectangle which are optimal for segment approximation (e.g., by bivariate piecewise polynomials) is investigated. We give criteria for optimal partitions and develop algorithms for computing optimal partitions of certain types.

Biquadratic Spline Approximations

open access: yesPublications of the Research Institute for Mathematical Sciences, 1984
We shall consider two kinds of spline approximations over a uniform mesh. The first of them is mid-point spline interpolation and the second is histospline approximation. Our methods don't need any knowledge of derivative values, that is, end conditions are homogeneous ones dealing with function values.

Dual generalized B-spline functions and their applications in several approximation problems

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Mechanical Design, Systems, and Manufacturing, 2015
A new construction method of dual generalized B-spline functions is presented in this paper. Due to the importance of generalized B-splines, several interesting applications of these dual functions in Computer Aided Manufacturing are also given.

APPLICATION OF B-SPLINE METHOD IN SURFACE FITTING PROBLEM [PDF]

open access: yesThe International Archives of the Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing and Spatial Information Sciences, 2019
Fitting a smooth surface on irregular data is a problem in many applications of data analysis. Spline polynomials in different orders have been used for interpolation and approximation in one or two-dimensional space in many researches. These polynomials

SPLINE APPROXIMATION FOR ZADEH'S EXTENSIONS

open access: yesInternational Journal of Uncertainty, Fuzziness and Knowledge-Based Systems, 2009
In this paper we show an approximation for [Formula: see text], where u is a fuzzy interval and [Formula: see text] is obtained from a continuous function f applying the Zadeh's extension principle. In this process, we used a decomposition for u and the linear spline function for the approximation of f.

Comparison of selected splines for stem form modeling: A case study in Norway spruce

open access: yesAnnals of Forest Research, 2014
Natural cubic spline has been frequently used to represent stem forms, with other spline types rarely involved. Splines are a large class of functions and there are many other spline types which might serve that purpose.
