Recursive B-spline approximation using the Kalman filter

open access: yesEngineering Science and Technology, an International Journal, 2017
This paper proposes a novel recursive B-spline approximation (RBA) algorithm which approximates an unbounded number of data points with a B-spline function and achieves lower computational effort compared with previous algorithms.

Total Least Squares Spline Approximation [PDF]

open access: yesMathematics, 2019
Spline approximation, using both values y i and x i as observations, is of vital importance for engineering geodesy, e.g., for approximation of profiles measured with terrestrial laser scanners, because it enables the consideration of

Spline approximation, Part 1: Basic methodology

open access: yesJournal of Applied Geodesy, 2018
In engineering geodesy point clouds derived from terrestrial laser scanning or from photogrammetric approaches are almost never used as final results.

Spline Approximation, Part 2: From Polynomials in the Monomial Basis to B-splines—A Derivation

open access: yesMathematics, 2021
In a series of three articles, spline approximation is presented from a geodetic point of view. In part 1, an introduction to spline approximation of 2D curves was given and the basic methodology of spline approximation was demonstrated using splines ...

USING SPLINE FUNCTIONS FOR THE SUBSTANTIATION OF TAX POLICIES BY LOCAL AUTHORITIES [PDF]

open access: yesAnnals of the University of Oradea: Economic Science, 2011
The paper aims to approach innovative financial instruments for the management of public resources. In the category of these innovative tools have been included polynomial spline functions used for budgetary sizing in the substantiating of fiscal and ...

Perfect spline approximation

open access: yesJournal of Approximation Theory, 2003
Uniqueness and approximation orders of perfect splines are studied in this article. In the main result, upper bounds to the best approximation by perfect splines to continuous functions are provided. Moreover, the approximation results are related to the so-called \(\Sigma\Delta\) modulation of bandlimited univariate signals.

Three-monotone spline approximation

open access: yesJournal of Approximation Theory, 2010
Jackson theorems for functions \(f\) whose third order divided differences are always nonnegative are studied. They are approximated by piecewise polynomial splines with minimal defect, and the error is bounded above in a Jackson-type theorem using the fourth modulus of smoothness of \(f\). Such functions are called three-monotone, and so is the spline

An entropy-based approach for a robust least squares spline approximation [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Computational and Applied Mathematics, 2023
We consider the weighted least squares spline approximation of a noisy dataset. By interpreting the weights as a probability distribution, we maximize the associated entropy subject to the constraint that the mean squared error is prescribed to a desired

SURFACE APPROXIMATION OF COASTAL REGIONS: LR B-SPLINE FOR DETECTION OF DEFORMATION PATTERN [PDF]

open access: yesISPRS Annals of the Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing and Spatial Information Sciences, 2022
Geospatial data acquisition of terrains produces huge, noisy and scattered point clouds. An efficient use of the acquired data requires structured and compact data representations. Working directly in a point cloud is often not appealing.
