Abstract Given the limited understanding of discrepancies in responses of diatoms to ocean acidification (OA), we comparatively investigated the physiological and transcriptional performances of a diatom Thalassiosira weissflogii acclimated to OA (pHt drop of 0.35–0.41) between day and night periods.

Experimental investigation on shock mechanical properties of red sandstone under preloaded 3D static stresses [PDF]
Triaxial impact mechanical performance experiment was performed to study the mechanical properties of red sandstone subjected to three-dimensional (3D) coupled static and dynamic loads, i.e., three confining pressures (0, 5, and 10 MPa) and three axial ...

Adaptive Twisting Metamaterials
This work introduces torque‐controlled twisting metamaterials as a transformative platform for adaptive crashworthiness. By combining multiscale predictive modeling with experimental validation on additively manufactured gyroids, it demonstrates tunable stiffness, collapse stress, and energy absorption.

A measurement of wave propagation in the split Hopkinson pressure bar
This paper presents results from optical and analytical measurements of stress wave propagation in a rod of PMMA. The rod is loaded between the incident and transmitter bars of a split Hopkinson pressure bar. Displacements in the rod are measured using high speed photography with digital image correlation.

Numerical Simulation for Bar Straightness Effect in Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar
Abstract Bars alignment in a Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar influences the quality of signal recorded during experiments, and thus affects the data of material properties being measured. There are some parameters directly related to the bars alignment such as their straightness, the impact face parallelism, and the neutral axis offset.
