A new ascovirus from Spodoptera exigua and its relatedness to the isolate from Spodoptera frugiperda

open access: yesJournal of General Virology, 2000
A new ascovirus was isolated from Spodoptera exigua in Indonesia and was tentatively assigned as a new species, Spodoptera exigua ascovirus 5a (SeAV-5a) according to the present ICTV ascovirus naming scheme based on DNA restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP), hybridization, formation of occlusion body, tissue tropism and host spectrum. SeAV-5a

Effects of sublethal doses of methoxyfenozide on the development, survival and reproduction of Spodoptera frugiperda. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The lethal and sublethal effects of the ecdysone agonist methoxyfenozide on the fall armyworm, Spodoptera frugiperda (J. E. Smith), were investigated by feeding a methoxyfenozide-treated diet to ϐifth instars until pupation in doses corresponding to ...

Moth oviposition shapes the species-specific transcriptional and phytohormonal response of Nicotiana attenuata to larval feeding [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Oviposition by lepidopteran herbivores on Nicotiana attenuata primes plant defence responses that are induced by the feeding larvae. While oviposition by both the generalist Spodoptera exigua and the specialist Manduca sexta primes the production of ...

Evidence for covert baculovirus infections in a Spodoptera exigua laboratory culture

open access: yesJournal of General Virology, 2011
A laboratory culture of Spodoptera exigua was examined to assess covert (latent or persistent) baculovirus infections and spontaneous disease outbreaks. Two nucleopolyhedrovirus (NPV) species were found to be reactivated from a covert state in a laboratory culture of S. exigua to fully lethal forms. These were identified as S.

Lethal effects of Spodoptera exigua nucleopolyhedrovirus isolated in Shiga Prefecture, Japan, on larvae of the beet armyworm, Spodoptera exigua(Lepidoptera: Noctuidae).

open access: yesApplied Entomology and Zoology, 2002
Spodoptera exigua nucleopolyhedrovirus (SpeiNPV) isolated in Shiga Prefecture, Japan, was bioassayed with all five stages of the beet armyworm to determine lethal doses and survival times at three rearing temperatures: 20°C, 25°C, and 30°C. Rearing temperature did not significantly affect the susceptibility of S. exigua larvae to SpeiNPV.
