Information state based speech recognition
One of the pitfalls in spoken dialogue systems is the brittleness of automatic speech recognition (ASR). ASR systems often misrecognize user input and they are unreliable when it comes to judging their own performance.

Solving Data Overlapping Problem Using A Class‐Separable Extreme Learning Machine Auto‐Encoder
The overlapping and imbalanced data in classification present key challenges. Class‐separable extreme learning machine auto‐encoding (CS‐ELM‐AE) is proposed, which is an enhancement of ELM‐AE that better handles overlapping data by clustering points from the same class together. Applying oversampling addresses imbalanced data.

A day in the life of a spoken word. [PDF]
Two experiments tracked the emergence of lexical\ud competition effects for newly learnt spoken words (e.g.,\ud "cathedruke"). Experiment 1 compared form-only learning\ud with learning in semantically rich sentence contexts. In both\ud cases, although immediate explicit recognition of the novel\ud words was good, lexical competition effects (e.g.,\ud ...

Word alignment and smoothing methods in statistical machine translation: Noise, prior knowledge and overfitting [PDF]
This thesis discusses how to incorporate linguistic knowledge into an SMT system. Although one important category of linguistic knowledge is that obtained by a constituent / dependency parser, a POS / super tagger, and a morphological analyser ...

Equilibrium Propagation for Dissipative Dynamics
This work develops local learning rules for damped linear dynamical systems, including mechanical structures and resistor‐inductor‐capacitor (RLC) circuits, by leveraging an effective action formulation. It demonstrates how physical systems can autonomously compute gradients and learn temporal patterns, enabling applications such as sound ...
