Factors and Experiences Associated With Unscheduled Hospital Readmission After Lateral Lumbar Interbody Fusion: A Case–Controlled Study

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, Volume 17, Issue 5, Page 1389-1396, May 2025.
The research utilized a case–control approach to contrast patients experiencing unscheduled readmissions with those undergoing planned readmissions due to staged surgery. Findings indicated a 3.88% rate of unscheduled readmissions, mainly linked to adjacent segment disease, with 3.35% necessitating reoperation.

Establishing a Staging System for Adjacent Segment Disease and Exploring Its Significance in Guiding Surgical Decisions: A Retrospective Study

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, Volume 17, Issue 5, Page 1418-1432, May 2025.
Developed a staging system for adjacent segment disease based on degeneration characteristics. Verified the feasibility and reliability of stage‐guided surgical decision‐making through surgical data, radiological data, and follow‐up data. This staging system was closely correlated with intervertebral disc degeneration and disc height while also ...

Clinical Study of Ultrasound‐Guided Modified Percutaneous Endoscopic Interlaminar Discectomy Combined With Medical Chitosan in Lumbar 4–5 Disc Herniation Treatment

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, EarlyView.
Ultrasound‐guided PEID plus medical chitosan can effectively reduce postoperative pain and perioperative complications, demonstrating superior clinical efficacy. ABSTRACT Objective Percutaneous endoscopic lumbar discectomy (PELD) is a preferred minimally invasive surgery for lumbar disc herniation (LDH); however, postoperative recurrence, nerve root ...

Incidence and Management of Cerebrospinal Fluid Leakage due to Late Presentation of Dural Tears After Lumbar Surgery

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, EarlyView.
This article reveals a 0.3% incidence of LPDT and highlights the importance of increased clinical awareness. Furthermore, appropriate management to optimize patient recovery and minimize long‐term complications. ABSTRACT Objective To investigate the incidence and treatment of cerebrospinal fluid leakage due to late presentation of dural tears (LPDT ...

A Modified Technique of Minimally Invasive Cortical Bone Trajectory Screws With U‐Rod for Treatment of Lumbar Spondylolysis

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, EarlyView.
The U‐rod technique combined with cortical bone trajectory screws is a safe and effective method for the treatment of lumbar spondylolysis. ABSTRACT Objective Spondylolysis is a common cause of low back pain, especially in the young athletic population. It involves a defect, either unilateral or bilateral, of the pars interarticularis.

Biomechanical response of decompression alone in lower grade lumbar degenerative spondylolisthesis--A finite element analysis

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research
Background Previous studies have demonstrated the clinical efficacy of decompression alone in lower-grade spondylolisthesis. A higher rate of surgical revision and a lower rate of back pain relief was also observed.

Health-related quality of life and sagittal balance at two to 25 years after posterior transfixation for high-grade dysplastic spondylolisthesis

open access: yesBone & Joint Open, 2021
Aims: High-grade dysplastic spondylolisthesis is a disabling disorder for which many different operative techniques have been described. The aim of this study is to evaluate Scoliosis Research Society 22-item (SRS-22r) scores, global balance, and ...

The Anterolateral Transpedicular Transverse Process Screw Technique: Surgical Techniques, Biomechanical study and Preliminary Outcomes

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, EarlyView.
This study designed a novel anterolateral screw placement technique and, based on this, developed a new anterolateral fixation method. Imaging, biomechanical, and short‐term efficacy analyses revealed that the Anterolateral Transpedicular Transverse Process Screw (ALTTS) technique achieves a high success rate for L5 vertebral fixation (pedicle width ...

Patients With Chronic Low Back Pain Without Advanced Disk Degeneration Exhibit Gut Microbiome Dysbiosis: Evidence From an Age‐, Sex‐, and BMI‐Matched Pilot Study

open access: yesJOR SPINE, Volume 9, Issue 2, June 2026.
Chronic low back pain in patients without advanced disc degeneration is associated with gut microbiome dysbiosis, marked by reduced microbial diversity and altered bacterial composition. These findings support a gut–disk axis in which impaired gut barrier integrity and systemic inflammation may contribute to disc inflammation, nociceptive fiber ...

Detrimental Effect of Low‐Magnitude High‐Frequency Vibration in an Ex Vivo Model of Intervertebral Disc Degeneration Despite Estrogen Treatment

open access: yesJOR SPINE, Volume 9, Issue 2, June 2026.
Low‐magnitude high‐frequency vibration (LMHFV), with or without 17β‐oestradiol (E2), exacerbated papain‐induced bovine intervertebral disc degeneration, reducing cell viability, impairing matrix production, and increasing inflammation. E2 showed no protective effect against papain‐induced degeneration or LMHFV.
