Soft sponges with tricky tree: On the phylogeny of dictyoceratid sponges

open access: yesJournal of Zoological Systematics and Evolutionary Research, Volume 58, Issue 1, Page 27-40, February 2020., 2020
Dictyoceratid sponge phylogeny was reconstructed with ITS and 28S (C‐region) rRNA data and compared with CO1, 18S, and 28S (D3‐D5) data. Type material was included, where possible. Thorectidae and its subfamily Thorectinae are paraphyletic. Phyllospongiinae are sister to Spongiidae.

Two New Marine Sponges of the Genus Haliclona (Haplosclerida: Chalinidae) from Korea [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Two new marine sponges, Haliclona (Haliclona) tonggumiensis n. sp. and H. (Reniera) sinyeoensis n. sp., in the family Chalinidae were collected from Ulleungdo Island and Gageodo Island, Korea from 2007 to 2009. Haliclona (Haliclona) tonggumiensis n.

Collagen IV and basement membrane at the evolutionary dawn of metazoan tissues

open access: yeseLife, 2017
The role of the cellular microenvironment in enabling metazoan tissue genesis remains obscure. Ctenophora has recently emerged as one of the earliest-branching extant animal phyla, providing a unique opportunity to explore the evolutionary role of the ...

Porifera Lectins: diversity, physiological roles and biotechnological potential [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
An overview on the diversity of 39 lectins from the phylum Porifera is presented, including 38 lectins, which were identified from the class of demosponges, and one lectin from the class of hexactinellida.

Microsymbiont and Morphological Phenotype Analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Determination biomass and phenotypic analysis of microsymbionts sponge is a comprehensive effort to discover the specificity of the sponge, not only on the identification and characterization studies that have been growing.

Marine sponge skeleton photosensitized by copper phthalocyanine: A catalyst for Rhodamine B degradation

open access: yesOpen Chemistry, 2016
We present a combined approach to photo-assisted degradation processes, in which a catalyst, H2O2 and UV irradiation are used together to enhance the oxidation of Rhodamine B (RB).

Phylomitogenomics bolsters the high-level classification of Demospongiae (phylum Porifera).

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2023
Class Demospongiae is the largest in the phylum Porifera (Sponges) and encompasses nearly 8,000 accepted species in three subclasses: Keratosa, Verongimorpha, and Heteroscleromorpha.

A giant foraminifer that converges to the feeding strategy of carnivorous sponges: Spiculosiphon oceana sp. nov. (Foraminifera, Astrorhizida) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
14 páginas, 6 figurasThe foraminifer Spiculosiphon oceana sp. nov. is a giant (>4 cm) agglutinated astrorhizid, which makes the second known species of this unusual genus and its first Mediterranean record.

Analysis of the Biomass Composition of the Demosponge Amphimedon queenslandica on Heron Island Reef, Australia

open access: yesMarine Drugs, 2014
Marine sponges are a potential source of important pharmaceutical drugs, the commercialisation of which is restricted by the difficulties of obtaining a sufficient and regular supply of biomass. One way to optimize commercial cell lines for production is

Purification and characterization of a collagenolytic enzyme from a pathogen of the great barrier reef sponge, Rhopaloeides odorabile. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2009
BACKGROUND:In recent years there has been a global increase in reports of disease affecting marine sponges. While disease outbreaks have the potential to seriously impact on the survival of sponge populations, the ecology of the marine environment and ...
