Spontaneous fission and nuclear dissipation
Abstract We investigate the effect on the spontaneous fission lifetime of dissipative coupling of the fission degree of freedom. The Gamow factor is modified substantially if the strength of this coupling is inferred from induced fission and heavy-ion reactions.

Hypoxia results in fragmented mitochondria. Whether this fragmentation promotes or prevents cell death is unresolved. Caenorhabditis elegans mutants defective in mitochondrial fission and fusion coupled with a hypoxia resistant Raptor mutant demonstrated that hypoxia‐induced mitochondrial fragmentation occurs without an intact fission machinery and ...

Neural network emulation of spontaneous fission
Large-scale computations of fission properties are an important ingredient for nuclear reaction network calculations simulating rapid neutron-capture process (the r process) nucleosynthesis. Due to the large number of fissioning nuclei contributing to the r process, a microscopic description of fission based on nuclear density functional theory (DFT ...

Dependence of the prompt fission γ-ray spectrum on the entrance channel of compound nucleus: spontaneous vs neutron-induced fission [PDF]
Prompt γ-ray spectra were measured for neutron-induced fission of $^{239,241}$Pu with incident neutron energy from thermal to about 100 keV and spontaneous fission of $^{240,242}$Pu using the Detector for Advanced Neutron Capture Experiments (DANCE ...

Determination of the U-238 spontaneous fission decay constant without neutron irradiation [PDF]
We have developed a methodology for measuring the decay constant of the spontaneous fission of U-238, lambda(f), using nuclear particle track detectors where thermal neutron irradiation is unnecessary.

Epilepsy: Epidemiology, Molecular Pathogenesis, and Clinical Management
Epilepsy is a heterogeneous and chronically evolving brain network disorder. This review integrates epidemiological burden, psychiatric comorbidities, and cyclic seizure patterns with multiscale pathogenic mechanisms, including ion‐channel dysfunction, synaptic transmission defects, neuroinflammation, metabolic and mitochondrial dysfunction, and ...

A methodology for the intercomparison of nuclear fission codes using TALYS
Codes for the calculation of fission observables are frequently used to describe experimentally observed phenomena as well as provide predictions in cases where measurements are missing.

A captive chimpanzee named Toon performed an unusual long‐lasting drumming session using different implements (e.g., limbs and tools) and techniques (e.g., drumstick‐on‐drum). He drummed faster with limbs than with tools and during the climax than the introduction of his pant‐hoot displays.
