Sporadic Aurora near Geomagnetic Equator: In the Philippines, on 27 October 1856 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
While low latitude auroral displays are normally considered to be a manifestation of magnetic storms of considerable size, Silverman (2003, JGR, 108, A4) reported numerous "sporadic auroras" which appear locally at relatively low magnetic latitudes ...

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Endotrivial modules for the sporadic simple groups and their covers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
In a step towards the classification of endotrivial modules for quasi-simple groups, we investigate endotrivial modules for the sporadic simple groups and their covers.

Re‐Awakening Public Attention to the Silent Pandemic of Cancer Among Older Adults in Low‐ and Middle‐Income Countries

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT As global populations age, cancer is increasingly becoming a leading cause of morbidity and mortality among older adults, particularly in low‐ and middle‐income countries (LMICs). Despite accounting for the majority of new cancer cases and deaths, older individuals remain underrepresented in cancer research, clinical guidelines, and health ...

Tracking Motor Progression and Device‐Aided Therapy Eligibility in Parkinson's Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To characterise the progression of motor symptoms and identify eligibility for device‐aided therapies in Parkinson's disease, using both the 5‐2‐1 criteria and a refined clinical definition, while examining differences across genetic subgroups.

Fast-type sporadic Na and K layers over São José dos campos, Brazil, and their link to meteor ablation

open access: yesFrontiers in Astronomy and Space Sciences
This study utilizes 3 years of observational data from the China-Brazil Joint Laboratory for Space Weather (CBJLSW) dual-beam Na-K LIDAR to investigate fast-type sporadic sodium (Na) and potassium (K) layers.

ALS With and Without Upper Motor Neuron Signs: A Comparative Study Supporting the Gold Coast Criteria

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective The Gold Coast criteria permit diagnosis of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) even without upper motor neuron (UMN) signs. However, whether ALS patients with UMN signs (ALSwUMN) and those without (ALSwoUMN) share similar characteristics and prognoses remains unclear.

Peculiar enhancement in the neutral K and Na layers observed during atypical E-region event in the South American magnetic anomaly (SAMA) region

open access: yesFrontiers in Astronomy and Space Sciences
The sudden enhancement in the mesospheric neutral metal layers (Ns) has been studied in different latitudes for decades. Specifically, at 23°S, Sodium Ns layers have been analyzed since their first observation at the end of the seventies. Several studies

Radio tomographic imaging of sporadic-E layers during SEEK-2 [PDF]

open access: yesAnnales Geophysicae, 2005
During the SEEK-2 Rocket Campaign in August 2002, a Dual Band Beacon (DBB) transmitting to Ground Receivers provided unique data on E-Region electron densities.

Sporadic-E and GNSS Scintillation

open access: yes, 2023
Multiple recent reports have claimed observations from ground-based GNSS measurements of near-equatorial daytime L1 (1.6 GHz) amplitude scintillation associated with sporadic-E. While there is a long history of detecting ground-based VHF scintillation associated with sporadic-E, if the L1 observations hold up it could say something new about ...
