Induced Membrane Bone Grafting Technique for Treatment of Large Postinfectious Acetabular Bone Defects

open access: yesArthroplasty Today, 2020
Management of large acetabular bone defects is challenging. The Masquelet technique has successfully reconstructed segmental defects in long bones arising from trauma, tumors, or infection but not been described for large acetabular defects. We present 3

Solid state lithiation-delithiation of sulphur in sub-nano confinement: a new concept for designing lithium-sulphur batteries. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
We investigate the detailed effects and mechanisms of sub-nano confinement on lithium-sulfur (Li-S) electrochemical reactions in both ether-based and carbonate-based electrolytes.

Real-time In Situ Electron Spin Resonance Measurements on Fungal Spores of Penicillium digitatum during Exposure of Oxygen Plasmas [PDF]

open access: yesAppl. Phys. Lett. 101, 013704 (2012), 2012
We report the kinetic analysis of free radicals on fungal spores of Penicillium digitatum interacted with atomic oxygen generated plasma electric discharge using real time in situ electron spin resonance (ESR) measurements. We have obtained information that the ESR signal from the spores was observed and preliminarily assignable to semiquinone radical ...

Embodied Synaptic Plasticity with Online Reinforcement learning [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in neurorobotics, volume 13, p81, 2019, 2020
The endeavor to understand the brain involves multiple collaborating research fields. Classically, synaptic plasticity rules derived by theoretical neuroscientists are evaluated in isolation on pattern classification tasks. This contrasts with the biological brain which purpose is to control a body in closed-loop. This paper contributes to bringing the

Enhanced discovery of bacterial laccase‐like multicopper oxidase through computer simulation and metagenomic analysis of industrial wastewater

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We obtained potential bacterial laccase‐like multicopper oxidase (LMCO) sequences through metagenomic sequencing. All sequences exhibited significant differences from known LMCOs in databases. To select the most promising candidates, we performed structure prediction and molecular docking using alphafold2, metal3d and rosetta.

Clostridium difficile Spore-Macrophage Interactions: Spore Survival

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
Clostridium difficile is the main cause of nosocomial infections including antibiotic associated diarrhea, pseudomembranous colitis and toxic megacolon. During the course of Clostridium difficile infections (CDI), C. difficile undergoes sporulation and releases spores to the colonic environment.

A continental view of pine-associated ectomycorrhizal fungal spore banks: a quiescent functional guild with a strong biogeographic pattern.

open access: yesNew Phytologist, 2015
Ecologists have long acknowledged the importance of seed banks; yet, despite the fact that many plants rely on mycorrhizal fungi for survival and growth, the structure of ectomycorrhizal (ECM) fungal spore banks remains poorly understood.

Ultra‐Shallow Flat Heat Waves on Low Thermal Conductivity Flexible Polyimide Substrate for Millisecond Thermal Analysis of Materials and Bioelectronic Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An electronic system is presented consisting of a silver thin‐film electrode on a polyimide substrate working both as a heating element and a resistive temperature sensor, generating millisecond heat pulses with very fast heating and cooling rates and a flat peak temperature with a tunable duration.

Lyophilized spore dispenser [PDF]

open access: yes, 1973
A lyophilized spore dispenser is provided which produces a finely divided, monoparticulate cloud of bacterial spores. The spores are contained within a tightly sealed chamber, and a turbulator orifice connected to an air supply source provides a jet of ...
