Mapping waste-disposal sites using SPOT remote sensor data: Riyadh case

open access: yes, 1997
Four SPOT multi spectral subscenes at scale of 1/100000 (spatial resolution 20 m) and covering the City of Riyadh and surroundings were used to map waste-disposal sites on the outskirts of this rapidly expanding city. Digital image processing techniques,

Exploration on the surface water leakage mechanism of travertine pools in Salix cupularis shrub area of Huanglong Scenic Spot, Sichuan Province

open access: yesShuiwen dizhi gongcheng dizhi
Recently, some travertine landscape groups in Huanglong Scenic Spot have been degraded to varying degrees. Surface water leakage, blackening and desertification have occurred on a large scale in the dense distribution area of Salix cupularis shrub, which

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Time-varying spot and futures oil price dynamics [PDF]

open access: yes
We investigate the role of crude oil spot and futures prices in the process of price discovery by using a cost-of-carry model with an endogenous convenience yield and daily data over the period from January 1990 to December 2008. We provide evidence that

Biophysical approaches for studying viral entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Viruses infect all living organisms and have been responsible for major epidemics and pandemics. Their ongoing evolutionary battle with host defenses creates a constant need for improved tools to study viral behavior. Advancing methods to probe viral attachment, fusion, and genome release deepen our understanding of how infections begin and support the

An Analysis of the Stabilizing and Welfare Effects of Intervention in Spot and Futures Markets [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper analyzes the effects of three alternative rules on the long-run distributions of both the spot and futures prices ina single commodity market, in which the key behavioral relationships are derived from the optimizing behavior of producers and ...

The human gut microbiome across the life course

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Despite significant individual variation and continuous change throughout life, the human gut microbiome follows some life stage‐specific trends. This article provides a brief overview of how gut microbiome composition shifts across different phases of life. Created in BioRender. Özkurt, E. (2026) https://BioRender.com/8q4nrnc.

Rab14 regulates the transport of human papillomavirus to the trans‐Golgi network for infectious cell entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals that the small GTPase Rab14 is necessary for human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and plays an essential role in the transport of virions to the trans‐Golgi network (TGN). HPV in the early endosome (EE), which harbors GTP‐bound Rab14, is transported to the TGN through the switch of Rab14 from its GTP‐bound to GDP‐bound form.

Amendment of soil with gypsum or lime and its effect on the incidence of cavity spot disease of carrots caused by Pythium coloratum

open access: yes, 1997
Cavity spot is a major soil-borne disease of carrots worldwide. It reduces the quality or carrots so that they become unmarketable resulting in substantial economic losses to the grower.
