HELMINTHS OF THE SPOTTED SEAL, Phoca largha, FROM THE BERING SEA

Journal of Wildlife Diseases, 1982
Fifty-five spotted seals, Phoca largha, from the seasonal pack ice of the Bering Sea were examined for helminth parasites. Twelve species of helminths were found: Anophryocephalus ochotensis, Diplogonoporus tetrapterus, Diphyllobothrium cordatum, Phocanema decipiens, Contracaecum osculatum, Dipetalonema spirocauda, Phocitrema fusiforme, Corynosoma ...

Psychoacoustic Studies of Spotted (Phoca largha) and Ringed (Pusa hispida) Seals

2016
Human development of the marine environment raises questions regarding the potential adverse effects of anthropogenic noise on marine mammals. For species that live in remote Arctic regions, recent and expanding human intrusions may pose a particular threat.

Vocal behavior in spotted seals (Phoca largha)

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2019
Captive studies can inform passive acoustic monitoring efforts by describing fundamental features of species-typical vocalizations emitted by known individuals. These include acoustic parameters as well as developmental, seasonal, and sex-based patterns in vocal behavior.

Sealing Anticorrosion Pastes for Resistant Spot Welding of Aluminum Alloys

Polymer Science, Series D, 2018
This article investigates the application of PSP-2M and KSP-2AK pastes modified by Laproxid 603 for protection of the internal cavity of welding overlap of aluminum alloys. It has been demonstrated that, upon resistant spot welding of 1913 and 1370 aluminum alloys over such modified coatings, the weld joints are characterized by superior mechanic and ...

Inshore associations of the spotted seal (Phoca largha Pallas, 1811)

Contemporary Problems of Ecology, 2010
Spotted seal Phoca largha is considered typically pagophilic species, but in the Peter the Great Bay of the Sea of Japan it is closely associated with specific coastal sites all the year round. Four types of largha inshore associations (preliminary, breeding, molting, and rehabilitative) invariably connected with certain types of haulout sites are ...

Juvenile molting of the spotted seal (Phoca largha)

REGIONAL PROBLEM
Based on observations of mother – newborn pairs (n=16), the author describes the nature of the spotted seal (larga) first postnatal molt: its timing, duration and sequence. Juvenile hair loss (lanugo) begins 18–27 days after birth and coincides with the end of lactation, when the pup subcutaneous fat layer thickness reaches its maximum.

The effect of sealing white spot lesions on lesion progression in vitro.

Pediatric dentistry, 1990
The resistance of white spot lesions to acid demineralization when etched with phosphoric acid and sealed with a resin material was studied. Artificially created white spot lesions were sealed and re-exposed to an artificial caries medium along with unprotected white spot lesions.
