AbstractData on the minimum spout‐fluid flowrates and the pressure drop in the annulus at that flowrate are presented as a function of bed height and nozzle diameter for a bed spout‐fluidized with water. The column was 62.6 mm. in diameter and contained 3.09 mm. glass particles. The particle Reynolds number at the minimum fluidizing velocity was 91.6.A

Experimental study of gas mixing in a spout‐fluid bed
AIChE Journal, 2005AbstractGas mixing in a spout‐fluid bed with a cross section of 0.3 × 0.03 m and height of 2 m was investigated by simultaneously injecting two different tracer gases. One was injected into the spouting gas flow and the other was injected into the fluidizing gas flow.

Since the pioneering text by Mathur and Epstein over 35 years ago, much of the work on this subject has been extended or superseded, producing an enormous body of scattered literature. This edited volume unifies the subject, pulling material together and underpinning it with fundamental theory to produce the only complete, up-to-date reference on all ...

Experimental Investigation of Flow Characteristics in a Spout-Fluid Bed
18th International Conference on Fluidized Bed Combustion, 2005Pressure fluctuation time series were obtained at various bed locations in a spout-fluid bed with its dimension of 300mm × 30mm × 2000mm. Power spectrum and Shannon entropy analyses of pressure fluctuations were developed to characterize the flow characteristics.

Mixing characteristics of binary mixtures in a spout-fluid bed
Particulate Science and Technology, 2016ABSTRACTMixing characteristics of binary mixtures in a flat-bottom cylindrical spout-fluid bed using glass beads and air are reported in this work. Experiments were carried out to investigate the mixing characteristics for binary mixtures at three flow conditions, i.e., only spouting, only fluidization and spout-fluidization.

Flow pattern and transition of rectangular spout–fluid bed
Chemical Engineering and Processing: Process Intensification, 2006Abstract Experimental study on the flow patterns and transitions in a rectangular spout–fluid bed (cross-section of 300 mm × 30 mm and height of 2000 mm) packed with Geldart group D particles was carried out. Six distinct flow patterns, i.e. internal jet, spouting, fluidizing, jet in fluidized bed with bubbling, jet in fluidized bed with slugging and

Low temperature drying of pomace in spout and spout-fluid beds
Journal of Food Engineering, 2007The solid residue that originates from virgin olive oil production has a consistency that falls between a paste and a particulate solid, consists of two phases: the crushed olive kernel and the fruit pulp. The kernel particles can be used as high quality solid fuel, while oil can be extracted from the pulp residue.

Coal combustion in spouted and spout-fluid beds
2010This study of coal combustion was carried out in a half-column spout-fluid bed combustor, in which Forestberg coal, a sub-bituminous Alberta coal, was burned in inert beds of sand. The combustor consists of a half cylindrical stainless steel column of 0.152 m I. D.

PEPT and discrete particle simulation study of spout‐fluid bed regimes
AIChE Journal, 2008AbstractThe results of a combined experimental and simulation study on the flow regimes that can be encountered during spout‐fluid bed operation are reported. A regime map for a three‐dimensional (3D) spout‐fluid bed was composed, employing spectral analysis of pressure drop fluctuations and fast video recordings.
